    Hi
Ummm… do you notice age descrinination…
The topic of age discrimination has been on my mind for some time.pardon the pun
i sometimes see it as passed off as humor. however its no joke when you might be 77 and being pushed round by some 17 year old who hates your skin just because your
    there.
on the dawn of my 59th birthday ...i look back at my youth and i was not a hippy..i was too young and came in on the tail end of the scene when it was in its decline’s for sure …had some interesting experiences however all that went out the window with the advent of "punk" and a protracted art school career.
i am now a practicing artist and im interested in chatting to thoes who went through the hippies paradime....who where there when that particular scene was going.
Funny my current long term girlfriend lived in height at the time....and did not know what a hippy was .
Until one day a bus load of people came and she said why are you here?
they stated “we come to see the hippies" she knew not what they ment.
she thought the hippies where "gypsies" and she just was passing through on her way to work at "standard oil"..lol
anyway hippies yeah..i would like to exchange some posts with some.
Particularly on the topic of consciousness and universal
    love.
As for age discrimination…I find it really disappointing and actually the inverse of just about every culture where elders where revered for their experience and wisdom.
In some dark way I think the hippies sowed the seeds of their long term destruction in the fact that they equated wisdom and knowledge with youth.
Perhaps this was a offshoot of lsd use and the doors of universal wisdom that are open to one upon the awesome revelation.
But yeah age is cool to an extent …you get not to make the mistakes and the mess..”well I made a mess”…..of my youth.
Than theres the down side of age which is basically..the body wears out and one returns to the universe. That can produce anxiety..i think its time to meditate. Jai Duru dev
this is wat i knew as a youth...dont think it was "hippy" but its good music. trust the british

Back in the day a long time ago before all this technology young minds would respect old minds for wisdom and guidance purposes.
Now old people can't even use an ATM. So, pffft, we gotta take this world by the horns ourselves and your life experiences become mute and pointless.
Your ways of life, dogma and experiences aren't ours and we don't want them either.
Well that's an Aussie way of life as I saw it, Europeans tend to respect their family ties but in the western worlds of America, Australia and the UK, the elders are growing up to be drug fucked bums we can't respect.

Coming from a 'youth'... there are a lot of us out there that respect people from older generations. I personally really enjoy speaking with and hearing about some of the things that you guys got up to, and I really appreciate advice and guidance on a 'been there, done that' basis... Technology is just setting people apart, massive barrier. I believe wisdom comes from within the soul of each person, not the age of the material body, although it is clearly obvious that at 19 I have little to no experience on 50+ year olds.
Conciousness and universal love are two topics in which I have always lived my life and will always live my life.

I respect all souls, young and old :sunny:

yeah..i don’t listen to that music much..i was at a friend’s house and he had a remastered dvd of the song we had a great time that and among other things.
i think it’s basically a good solid song. i actually even find the improvisation (though tremendously artistically indulgent) tolerable given the time that has elapsed since its recording. Basically I like as interesting as I can get but I live in a small village in mexico,so not many concerts or even clubs..just bars. However a local bar has music every Friday and Saturday night….the bands come from a big city some 30 kms away.
They get allot of different acts…allot of improvisation goes on later in the night I have noticed.
    What music do you like?

I really like the music of Frank Zappa, especially the post-mothers stuff, though I dig some of that too.
Frank was a real pioneer of way-out-there improvised guitar solos.
His son is touring his music now, with some of the old Alumni... "Zappa Plays Zappa" is the tour name .
I'm lucky they are coming to a town near me soon!

Those colors are beautiful ink! I love it! Your sense of color balance is awesome!
    Show more, por favor?

One thing I noticed back in the 60's and 70's there were many kinds of hippies. My mom was a hippy and she had different groups she hanged out with. There were the intellectual hippies who were involved in politics and organized political events (who sometimes get upset if you do not pay attention to politics like they do and get preachy), there were the druggies who just liked to get high and were apathetic about doing much, there were the small town hick hippies, Jesus freaks who preached their beliefs, new age hippies who preached their beliefs, Loner hippies who did not hang with specific groups but would linger on the fringe of many, pot heads who just loved pot and no other drugs, acid heads and many of them did art. There were the Theater hippies who did puppetry. I would see many of them at Bread and Puppet Circus in Vermont, May Day festivals, and Heart of the Beast theater in Minneapolis. Oh yeah the Deadheads where my mom fit in but she also hung out with hippies fitting all those categories. The Rastafarians, I once lived in a household full of Rastas and I loved coming home from work to their drum jams. The Rainbows who had people of all walks of life. Native American hippies who taught me beadwork and how to make dreamcatchers. I grew up with friends that fit into all of those groups. Where I live there are still many old hippies around. Many live in the country and go to music festivals and cafes here in town. I guess I am a loner art hippy. I do not go many places now that I am crippled. My kids are not hippies but they have some hippy friends. They are both artistic though and love theater.

Most of the ageism I see in the area has more to do with job hunting. More younger people get the jobs in my area. I have not seen much ageism in the hippies where I live but I have noticed some of the intellectual ones like to patronize people who do not put on intellectual airs like they do. My hippy family i.e. mom, uncle, siblings can get like that.

i cannot speakfor anyone else, but i am 57 and i still consider myself part or the woodstock generation. i may have been a teen-ager in the 60s and 70s,but i was deeply involved in the prevailing culture of the times. this era in my life is the one that ultimately set the standard for the worldview for the rest of my days.:2thumbsup:

What annoys me is when older people believe they deserve special treatment due to the fact that they are older, as though old age automatically translates into wisdom and respect. If an older person is going to disrespect me, I am going to disrespect that older person. Age has nothing to do with it, because respect has to be earned, not freely given.

i find it interesting that the OP of a thread complaining about age discrimination lied about their age.

There is probably an age gap where older and younger people don't know each other. As time passes the experiences of of each generation slightly alters. I don't see a vast disregard/disrespect from younger people to older people or vice versa. There is obviously a section of both who are disrespectful and show discrimination.

    Maelstrom;
I am 63, and don't feel as though I deserve anything special due to my age. I DO, however, feel that the "youth" (those 30 and below) owe me a certain amount of respect due to that fact that I HAVE survived this long, and prospered, and have a good amount of experience, knowledge, and wisdom that can only be earned by living and learning. I am also always willing to share my experience, knowledge, and insight with the younger crowd if asked to do so. If that sounds "disrespectful", I apologize, but the facts are the facts; we "older folks" know a few things about which you "younger folks" have absolutely no clue whatsoever!

Totally agree ChasM23. Im coming up 60 years & Im not asking for any privaliges but a bit of respect for having been thru it all & being willing to share it if asked isnt expecting too much is it? In many ancient and Tribal societies the Elderly are given a position of respect because those cultures have learned to value their resources within their group. Skills are passed down, experience drawn upon, counsel is is sought.

But yeah Maelstrom-if ANYONES gona disrespect you let 'em have it! My motto is 'Don't waste people' !

I believe respect iz earned ... not because of age ...

I have seen many older step in my way just because they feel az though they are older and deserve that...

I mean people forget there are a lot of crappy people in thiz world and that they get older to ...

They just dont become nice becauze they get old ... heck look at congress...

I do not disrespect any one young or old ... but I will ignore the hell out of you...

The problem iz not old or young ... the problem iz the government dumped the old people and left them with out money or medical treatment...

When I had a heart ... that crushed it ... to see older people saddened because they could not pay for their medicine or buy food ...

To see older veteranz sitting in front of shelterz in a wheel chair in the middle of the snow missing their armz and legz from serving thiz place...

The youth are angry because they are in the same shape they have been dumped ...

You cover theze thingz up with a few placez of shinning happy people for the newz, newz paper, etc that representz the young the old the disabled etc...

And wahlah you have a country that takez care of the people ... but not really... no one carez ...

They only care when they are about to be caught not taking care of people ...

    lol

No one carez about you except for you ...

There iz only one way to say it ... Truthfully

  18. "The old people" - you want to lump us as a fucking group because ....? Everyone in the world is an individual and should be treated as such! Learn to take people as you find them and not make sweeping generalisations please! Z for S neither makes you Smart or hip by the way. just an arse!

Speaking as a 61-yr-old (I only lied a little), I find it interesting that the old guy can't spell.
