I'll bet that this is the last that you will hear about this.

This will be covered up. No more reports or stories. Ever.

Since we basically demand electricity there are only a few choices of energy for meeting the demand. Nothing burned is "clean". But methane is about the least dirty fuel to be used these days. Like it or not, most of our methane comes from the ground through mining. Hitting a pressure pocket is to be expected since drilling holes into the earth is an imperfect science.

Sure I think we all wish we could harness wind and solar to make it all happen, but our demand for electricity is way too high for alternatives to meet the demand. We'll be married to fossil fuels for at least a couple of additional centuries unless a wild card event occurs.

That event could be the discovery of a cleaner process or an asteroid with a vein of uranium the size of Texas. Until then, we'll burn things to generate electricity and try our best to clean the exhaust.

There's an immense amount of geothermal energy stored right under our feet at this very second. But I suppose one can't charge as much for something so abundant so it must be a waste of time and resources to try to harness it.
