Tearing down my barn. Dam chickens knocked down the heat lamp. Probably roosters fighting. I spent years fixing it up. Had a cool loft for hanging out. Below that was a wood working shop. Nothing was left salvagable. Knocking it down to the concrete floor. The coop was on the back of the barn.
Bummer man... I know how this feels. My whole house was gutted by a fire at the very end of December. Gonna take more than a backhoe to get rid of mine.
Sorry about the loss you have had. I never knew anyone who wanted a hoe back! After the clean up from the fire, I hope you are able to get back to where you want to be .
Im salvaging the glass and some of the greenhouse frame. Got a dumpster delivered Satrday and my lil brother and nephew helped all day yesterday clean up the burned stuff inside. Lost 25+ yrs of my favorite stuff. I had my whole library in boxes as we were painting this winter. Old journals, art, pictures, records, Christmas stuff, gardening tools, power tools, tiller. I just cant believe how fast and hot it burned! Every inch is charred. Less then 1/2 hour after it started the vol.fire dept. was there. Thank God for them or it may have caught the house on fire. I just want to get it tore down and rebuilt asap. Its bumming me out seeing it like that. Yes, i miss fresh eggs! Ive had chickens since we moved her 12 yrs ago. Its weird buying eggs and they arent the same. Insurance is barely enough for building materials so i have to rebuild it myself. Glad I have two sons to help and my brother. Live and learn. Life goes on!
Your Now The Third HF's Member To Suffer Major Destruction Involving Fire, And Total Loss Of Collections Going Back Many Years, All Totally Irreplacable.... EDIT:- Just Checked Your Profile And I Am Curious As To What That Big Silver Cylinder Is, Is It Liquid Petroleum Gas...LPG..??? Cheers Glen.
Yup... Kinda weird if you ask me. Hope you can find something in there that is salvageable... Even if it's not functional, just for the memory.
sorry to hear it, that is quite a loss. i am surprised you were able to fit a wood shop and a hangout loft in there. also, chickens are pretty tough; unless you had mid-winter chicks, they don't really need a heat lamp. oh, and i don't have a backhoe, but i can get one if you can get a truck to carry it out there on. otherwise, i'll have to drive it at about 15 mph all the way out there. no such thing. hell, i've used a backhoe to pull vines out of trees. if you've got it, you might as well use it after all. probably a lot more than third, if you're including every registered member.
Yeap LP tank but its empty since I got a wood stove and Eden pure type of heater. The chickens never needed the heat lamp but they would keep laying with it. Thankfully its new chick season. Its good size garage/workshop. 24'x24'. Counted up around $5k in tools and inventory. Insurance will cover some contents. Gotta get it knocked down. I'll post pics when i do. This weekend hopefully. Found a garage package at Menards for about $5k. Doesnt include the loft, which I really want! Oh yeah. Im going to make the new building LEED (green building) certified as much as possible. Thank you guys for the kind word. It really helps.
I have a Ram truck. 4X4. Also John Deer tractor. Its deisel and 4X4. Im going to try to pull it down. I'll notch out all the load bearing posts. Its very heavy hard wood. 80 yr old pine. Almost petrified. lol
sorry that this happened. we make simple mistakes, or a thing happens beyond our control, and there are huge consequences I'm glad that your house was ok though, but it's too bad that you lost so much
I'm still going through stuff from the house fire... Then it's going to be demolished. I can't save mine. @ Indy... You going to try to save the structure?
