i just came across an add for a local giant petstore, they seem to be totally within animal rights guidelines, and then i came across a bubble that proclaimed: "ALL PUPPIES MICROCHIPPED FOR IDENTIFICATION!"
sooo, highly aggravated, i checked there website hoping to find they just meant each had a collar with a computerized id tag or something...
but no, each animal is IMPLANTED with a microchip.

is anyone else as upset by this as i am??

    peace all,
    marissa

my puppy is implanted with a microchip..it doesnt hurt them at all i watched them do it and i think he liked it..its just so if he dies or is lost they can find him before someone or something else does..i dont see anything really wrong with it..its not as bad as those big long needles they stick in them...or getting them fixed..now that must hurt!

i guess it's not as bad, certainly not as painful as fixing lol
if you were there to witness, it makes me feel a lot better, i just dont understand why they use an invasive implant as opposed to an external chip without ever getting consent from owner/family.

    p.s.-ADORABLE pup! :)

they are the owners and have consented. you are not the owner until you purchase the pup, and were notified before sale, so its on you. they dont use a collar because collers can be removed, and if you just paid 800 bucks for a puppy and another grand to get him all immunized and and whatnot, you dont want anyone to be able to simply find and claim hte dog. The chip gurantees you can prove your dog belongs to you.

when i first read this.. the first thought in my head was people were getting breast implants made of puppies.

    and isn't this a pets/animals forum issue?

    but anyway :)

humane societies almost always do this. it's not a shocking or even a very new process (it's been around since the 1980s), and is certainly not painful for the animals. if an animal is lost, and picked up by the hs or the pound or whomever, they will scan it for a chip. if it has a chip, they will find the owner - that way, it can be determined if animals who are picked up have owners. it increases the chance of reunification, and keeps down the number of animals that must be put to death. now that sounds pretty damn humane and helpful to me!

I work in an animal hospital in Jersey and we have injected it soooooo many times. It doesn't harm the pets at all.
It's highly recommended when you travel by plane with your pet.

    My 2 cents

Our new puppy Malamute just got chipped. It was done when he was neutered (he was so horny, he was miserable, he stopped eating, and he had prostatitis, he recovered full happiness as soon as he came out of the anesthesia) Malamutes tend to "wander." They are beautiful dogs, but most people don't have the energy or the room, or the temperment to take proper care of them. If Sweet got away I would die. One of our other Mals used to wander and it was horrible, not knowing where she was, if she had food and shelter, if someone was abusing her ect. Collars come off. People steal dogs ect.

The implants are a really good idea. NO ONE can claim your dog, and he is yours for life. It wasn't expensive, and it didn't hurt. I know if Sweet gets stolen or lost, we will absolutely indetify him, with NO arguments.

It is the best thing for a dog. It is for HIS safety and care.

I don't know, I feel it's just wrong, this control, this spying, it just reflects how big brother treats us, i have a cat, and i 'll never do that to him

implants are actually more humane that not because it insures that the dog will be relocated and not put to sleep if its ever lost. Anyway, I have a tortoise who is chip implanted as well and it was a very minor procedure and in the end it helps gaurantee their safety.

    Peace

    BTW the killers rock
