There's no reason why one living being can't communicate with another living being

 

Why can't you just let it go and accept that there are people with different views than yours? If there weren't people with different views you wouldn't believe the earth rotates around the sun right now anyway.

Because you think you are right doesn't mean you are. I don't believe in faeries and I don't believe trees can talk, but if someone wants to believe and they aren't doing any harm what's the point in trying to covert them to what you think is the truth?

 

And the others? What were their qualifications? If you think you're a sane and balanced individual.... Why do you see a therapist?

 

This is not about me, but about you. Instead of avoiding the issue, why do you not answer the question in regards to you seeking professional help.

Maybe that's what you believe.... but it's not what I believe. You presume to pass judgement on me and all I'm trying to do is find out what makes you believe you're qualified to make that value assessment about me, or anyone for that matter.

You say "others" have informed you you're sane, but so far, from what you've said here, all you're basing your assessment on is a vague reference to medical science and some therapist of questionable qualifications that you're seeing for unknown reasons that you say has pronounced you sane. Is this therapist you're seeing a Ph.D.? An M.D.?

No, you're mistaken, it's not an indisputable fact. You may believe it is (based on what others believe), but that doesn't make it true. There are actually a variety of reasons people may hear voices, and the diagnosis of schizophrenia is only one of them.... there are many people who hear voices that are never diagnosed with any psychiatric condition at all and lead perfectly normal lives.

You haven't shown yourself to be qualified (or credible) in any way to make any meaningful or revealing assessment of my mental state Maelstrom, and you can't/won't provide any foundation that might tend to support your assertion of mental instability on my part.

You're seeing a therapist and you're evasive about why which means you're probably having some kind of serious mental difficulties yourself (why don't you focus on that), making you're assertion even more suspect.

So again.... What really qualifies you to label me, or anyone for that matter, as being sane or not? Nothing that I can see.

I can't help myself but also add to this thread: Maelstrom obviously has some issues in this department himself. Get some balance dude. Or get a life. It's probably one of those things that makes you act like an intolerant retard.

 

I would agree generally that hearing voices from inanimate objects is typically a sign of mental illness.

My concern would be that such a belief might make it hard for someone to relate to others, or to make decisions on their own behalf, etc.

However, any form of medical treatment is only valid, imho, if it is clearly beneficial to the individual. It is not a right of the state or of society to use medicine to eradicate beliefs or behaviors that it finds aberrant.

Guenn seems to me to be well adjusted to her beliefs. She is a talented artist, and her beliefs seem to inspire her art. While it might be that a medicine might change her beliefs, I don't see a reason to think that a medicine would make her happier

She's managed to live 86 years so far without a treatment for her views. I don't see any reason why she should start now.

You needn't worry windy.... I found this all so alarming I immediately called Dr. Grof and he's assured me I'm still quite sane. All kidding aside, and after several swings of the broadswords now....
