Roger waters album "amused to death" comes to mind here The lyrics of "Prime time fodder for the news at 9", TV uses peoples suffering as a way to fill air time to make people feel "fake grief" and I believe the masses think they are genuinely saddened by the suffering in the world (mainly from wars) however yet different images of the same suffering are run over and over again on the TV, and yet they do nothing about it and sit idly by while wars keep going on and on
I think the lyrics to Tool's song Vicarious sums up the general population's response to tragic news. Eye on the the TV, 'Cause tragedy thrills me, Whatever flavor it happens to be, like... "Killed by the husband" "Drowned by the ocean," "Shot by his own son," "She used a poison in his tea, and kissed him goodbye," That's my kind of story, It's no fun 'til someone dies Don't look at me like I am a monster, Frown out your one face, but with the other Stare like a junkie into the TV, Stare like a zombie While the mother holds her child, watches him die Hands to the sky crying, "Why, oh why?" Cause I need to watch things die...from a distance, Vicariously I live while the whole world dies , You all need it too, don't lie So basically subconsciously tragic news is thrilling and in a sense empowering to the general population especially with little to no excitement in their lives.
My mom thought it would be a good idea to have a TV babysit and essentially raise me for 16 years. I sold my last TV a few years ago and do not, have not, and will not own a TV. Anything I need to watch I can find online, download or pirate. I don't trust cable because that's shows that someone chooses you to watch, not the other way around. I used to be waaay more into politics than I used to, but it caused me such stress, anger, and unhappiness, I try to stay away.
why do you even watch or care about the media we all know that there is something bigger than all of us,and the man is slowing us down from discovering it with it's media propaganda.
BBC and Al Jahzeera are both really good news sources. I also enjoy the occasional John Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Spot on. It's called cognitive dissonance. This is the story behind the predicament we're all in and why horrible things are allowed to happen repeatedly in this world.
