Need legal advice involving a used vaporizor bought locally on CraigsList

In the midst of surfing my local classifieds, I navigated to Craigslist and stumbled into a too good to be true ad for a $150 vape being sold for 50 so me being my bargaining self, jump on this steal and went today to pick it up. It was used but I see used vaporizers on Craigslist all the time. So then when I got back to my house from a different city because it was about 40 miles away, I hooked up the vaporizer and was using it while I heard a knock on my door. It definitely appeared to be a policeman and I don't know if he knew our truck but he stayed for about 10 or 15 Minutes before he left and I don't know if maybe the guy that sold it to us might have been a cop... but my question is-- would he have had to arrest us on the spot or can he come back for further questioning and how did he even know where I lived; Any information regarding this would be appreciated and I live in Virginia if this helps...

 

No he can not arrest you for buying the vap. If it was used there is a chance there was resin on it at which point it becomes drug paraphernalia which is a crime. When it is not used it is still for tobacco technically. But I doubt a cop will set up a sting with a vap with some resin. The fact that this cop was knocking means he has no warrant for you, if he did he would have simply knocked your door down SWAT style.

My guess was he was trying to see if you would allow him into your place so he could snoop around. This is common practice for cops in many areas. In their opinion if you have nothing to hide it is no problem. But in that situation not answering the door is best or telling them to leave unless they have a warrant.

 

Okay I'm a little confused as to how he would even know where I live if it wasn't a sting, just unless we got followed. Also there was more knocking this morning and we didn't answer this time either and it was the same cop that it was last time with a buddy and this continues for another 15 to 20 minutes. I live in the bottom half of the house and my landlord lives on top and I feel they are going to continue coming until someone answers and speaks with them. What should I do... should I answer it and tell them that we weren't using it for illegal purposes if that's what they're even here to talk about or should I seek legal advice and get their opinion on this matter?

 

You're being paranoid. The cop at your door likely had nothing to do with you buying a vaporizer.

 

just answer next time. without a warrant he cant come in anyways. and it could be for a completely different reason. if he followed ubig deal unless he watched you buy weed in which case he would of gt u before u gt home.
also if u blaze in ur house always a chance ur landlords smelled something n called it in. they could just be there to tell u the landlord isnt liking the smell and to please stop. even thats far fetched tho cuz landlord can let them in or its esier to get a warrant through one or something
