I try to wrap those loose fringe hairs around one of the front dreads to keep them out of the way. I'm hoping that slowly they'll start to get locked in.
I've finally put together a timeline. I've lumped them all together into this video montage thing. 5+ years of dreadlock growth in 2 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBQ6uCWnJS8"]Dreadlocks - 5 Years of Dreadlocks in 2 Minutes - YouTube

Aww, you look so young in the beginning. I love seeing how dreads progress differently for other people.
That was awesome man. Once ya realized the wax thing, did ya do anything to try an get it out? Or just stop from then on?
They only got waxed once, when they were put in. I spent weeks trying to squeeze and melt it out with a straightening iron and by soaking them in boiling water... Eventually, as you can tell by the varying dread lengths, I cut all of the original length off. As my dreads grew out a few inches, I would cut a few inches off of the tips until I'd removed any hair that had ever been backcombed or waxed.
Ah word! I started with 1 backcombed lock before the rest decided to knot up. Waxed that lock so much for like 2-3 days haha. So happy to have found this place before i made any more stupid moves. Tried to drop that lock in some boiling water but i remember being so worried that i was gonna burn myself. Think i was drunk. Prolly ended up just making some noodles....ewwwww!! Haha:mickey:
69 months. Had to recheck because it still sounds like a really long time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iSqmUF2Gzk"]Dreadlocks - 69 Month Update - YouTube
It's mad isn't it? That youtube channel has a an accents game tag video on it and I completely stumped everyone with my strange accent. I'm English, but over the last few years I've spent a lot of time in Norway. Even though I've spent months and months living in Norway, my Norwegian is still terrible and so I speak English with Scandinavians... and I've picked up that accent. So my accent is a mix of English + Norwegian accent English.
I am jealous haha. I have always loved the idea of dreadlocks and what not, but have never tried. Don't think they would suit me. Plus my parent's would have a spaz.. and work.. and..and..and
I'd probably go a bit mental if I had dreads in Australia, it's probably warm enough without the extra head-insulation!
Thank you Bubble! This thread helped me get up the courage for my first trim, which I did about a month ago. So glad I did.
Trimming is great! It's difficult to do your first trim because there's a certain level of sentimental attachment and they've taken a long time to get to where they are. But the benefits are great. You can balance out the lengths and layer them if you so wish. Depending on how much you take off, the weight difference can be amazing. I always feel so good afterwards because it makes my head feel weightless and that's only from cutting off a few inches. Shorter dreads means less hair to wash, less hair to dry and less weight when wet. When you cut off the thick tips you also allow water to drain out of the dreads more easily. But the main reason I did most of my trimming was to remove original backcombed length and congo tips. The original backcombed length had a much different texture to the softer bendy new growth and it also retained a lot more water. I have a lot of congos and the tips are still all singles so I like to cut those off when they're long enough too.
