I swear, once people have tried it, it seems many can't get enough, often enough. They're this preoccupation with finding a time, a place, some porn, a friend, anything to get back to climaxing.

i think addiction is defined as continuing to do something pleasurable despite adverse consequences

so, going about one's life and having orgasms here and there, like a lot of people do, wouldn't be defined as addiction... it would need to interfere with functioning/have undesirable impacts on a person's life

like with anything pleasurable, addiction is a definite possibility

Many of us may need an intervention and a short stay in rehab.

People work their addictions around their responsibilities (with the exception of alcoholics and drug addicts that are dysfunctoinal). For instance, cigarettes or computer or food or gambling or sports.....we get those in between laundry and job and commuting and rearing kids. Hm......think it's a very definite possibility. Oddly, there are actually weeks where I might be less inclined, so with women it is probably somewhat contingent on hormones.

Actually go lower, people start masturbating a lot younger than 12. Or better yet ask a friend who is a parent and you're comfortable discussing the how to talk to your child about good touch/ bad touch and the concept of "private time".

    ---

Yes they are addicting, or at least have the potential to fall under the medical definition of an addiction, with withdrawal symptoms and all.

well i did say "any person." i'd say 12 is about the age where it becomes pretty much universal.

Are orgasims addicting? I think so. If I don't have one at least every couple of days I start to get the shakes.

3 months is the longest I've gone without having one since I was 12. It was a concious effort on my part in my early 20s, sort of an experiment.

If you're using the term "addiction" casually yes. But the clinical definition of an addiction is when you get withdrawal symptoms because you go off of it.

There's a huge debate over the DSM, definitions of what makes an addiction now in light of the pop-cultural term "internet addiction".

You might like something a lot, but with enough will power you can go off it and not go into severe possibly life threatening withdrawal symptoms.

Well, orgasims do release dopamine in the brain which is our reward system I can see why it can be addicting.

Exactly, and if you do it too often, the body compensates for the constantly high level of dopamine and then the level of stimulation (the sex act) needs to get more intense to reach the next high.

It's exactly like a substance addiction, just on a much more mild level and IS reversible if you scale the behavior back down.
