First of all, hi to everybody, it is so GOOD to be here! alright, I want to get a tattoo since I was 13 so I figured out that this will be the summer. the problem and the reason why I still didn't do it is cause I don't know exactly what I want and I don't wanna put just anything. It'll be on the neck (back side) and I was considering something like somekind of a dragon or something. Any ideas? I wannt it to be... I don't know. Strong,powerfull...? you know? and all the web sites I've been checking out are not helping cause there's no way I'm gonna put what those guys did Thanks
You are the one who's body is going to wear this. On top of that we only know you so much. It is somewhat of a daunting decision just because of these reasons alone. What I did when I decided to get mine was to go to a couple of tattoo parlors & look at what they had on the walls. I also took notice of the tattoos I could see on people I encountered. I ended up opting for a mandala on my hip because it tied into my spirituality & I wanted something that I could show only when I wanted to. That was my process & ultimately decision. Everyone has their own path on this too. I do feel it necessary to consider since this is going to be something that is going to b e seen that you will want something that isn't going to scare off potential employers when you reach that stage in your life. I know it's a drag to think about career & working but unless you have some source of wealth it is a fact of life. Don't let this discourage you in any way it's just a consideration when selecting the art. For what it's worth. I am now considering getting a matching mandala on my other hip & getting this one touched up, it's starting to fade. I also should probably mention that every adult member of my immediate family has body art except my Wife. We all have them in different places & have individual designs. My brothers each did their own (I wouldn't suggest that but it was what they wanted to do), my Son & Daughter-in-law have correlating ones. I think that is cool, my nephew is mostly covered on his upper body & has a lot on his legs. He had a friend who was a tattoo artist so he got his for free. My nieces have them on various parts of their bodies each in a different part, some openly seen others not. My Brother-in-law recently got one on his arm with the phase of the moon on the day he was born. We all are happy we have them & as far as I know, none of us has had a problem with other people's reactions. I can say, in my case, it has been quite the opposite many times. Remember, this is a wonderful form of personal art. I think it’s important that you have something that represents your spirit but that is just me.
I wish I could help you with an answer, but I am totally opposed to tattoos. Good luck in finding what you want, if it is what YOU want.
Take your time with the decision. Dont rush to pick something just because you have waited so long. And definatley check out a bunch of tat artists before you decide to go with one. Some are alot better than others at what they do And make it your decision and yours alone. And I agree with snowdancer about thinking ahead, as in employment and how the tatoo will tie in with that if at all. I have 3 but all in spots that are covered with clothes easily. A girlfriend of mine has quite a bit, and must wear band-aids and long sleeves everyday to work, even in the summer. Its not really that big of a deal, but something to think about. Good luck.
i took the time to really think about mine and research mine and talk to people who have them, do them, etc. don't rush, its a lifetime commitment. (and it can include some pain... during and after)
thanks ppl! I do think ahead ( I really, really, really want to have on my left arm but I won't) and actualy the only problem is symbol. I don't want it to look mean or evil or something and all the dragons I saw look like that. I like the one Jolie has and I like the meaning but I also don't want to have the same tattoo like her. I also like the symbol of fenix a lot, but I haven't seen a good one also. Well, I really hope I'll find something along the way...
Do what I did and research!! I visited many tattoo shops and talked to the guys and looked at the art on their own arms. My guy does originals, for example, so you don't have to go with the flash on the web or in the shops. That way you get something just for you. I will post some of mine as soon as I get my new digital camera hooked up to the computer. I have seen some good phoenixes, btw. That would be awesome, if rising from the ashes has some significance for you. I am having my guy work up a nest of snakes for me to represent the awful year I just made it through.
yeah, wouldn't that be cool? I like your ideas and would really like to see tattoos you have. maybe i do get the original one like a phoenix just for me, I need to think bout how I want it to look like. What kind did you see?
Well, hard to describe really, but the one I remember most was mostly red and yellow, all flames on the bottom and the bird had his wings spread out and his head in profile. I got mine to cover three really nasty surgical scars (people would make faces and ugh noises when they saw them) on my right leg. I have absolutely no regrets, and before it's over, my whole right leg will be covered. Right now it's at about, oh, 75% covered.
Once you've found the perfect design for your tattoo and have no hesitation about it, wait another six months. If you still feel teh same way about that design, then go for it. Most of my friends with tats regret getting certain ones that they thought were cool at the time, partially because they grew up and grew out of it. Just something to consider before getting inked.
Wise advice. I think, personally, that pot leaves, peoples names, 420 in flames, etc. can be easily regretted. My shop also has some flash that has melted crayons and some other very childish looking stuff. I believe it would appeal to the young and get old quick. So, yeah, don't do anything rash.
Well, this might inspire you a bit. This is my first and only tattoo. I'm still debating whether or not I want another one. We'll see. Anyway, I think this pic was taken about 2 weeks after it was done. I chose a Celtic Cross because it had personal meaning to me. My father is Irish and proud of it. And so am I. My mother is a serious born-again Christian. I have a difficult time relating to her as I'm in doubt about my own beliefs at this time, but I do have a respect for Christianity as I was raised as such and still carry on some of the values that were taught to me. That and I think Jesus was a very cool cat. So I figured a Celtic Cross would be my best bet. Two years later I still wanted it, so when I went on vacation, I figured, "Why not?" Honestly, it wasn't too scary. There was one instance where I got a little dizzy and nauseous, but it was because my body wasn't used to the shock it was receiving from the tattoo gun. And the pain wasn't all that bad. When he was drawing straight lines, it got a bit unnerving, but when he was filling in, it wasn't bad at all. The guy gave me an initial prick with the gun so I'd have an idea of what it would feel like. Slight sting, but no worse than a bug bite. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just make sure you know what you want because you're gonna have it for a while. And colors do fade in time. Which is why I kept mine black with a touch of white.
So I want a tatto to resemble all the strength and courage i've been through growing up being gay. But I can't really think of what symbol or picture to get. Anybody have any ideas? I want September 19th, 2006 to be in the tatto somewhere because that is the day I told my mom I was gay.
. I hate tattoos with words, like a date or a name. You may change your mind about the defining moment in your coming out. And it sounds like you will not soon forget when you came out to mom, so you don't need a reminder. And, but do you really have a need to advertise that to the world? You are out and proud, that's what counts. There are gay symbols. A rainbow flag and "lambda", 11th letter of the Greek alphabet (an upside down "y" of sorts.) I saw a rainbow flag with a peace sign in reverse on the flag. That is the peace sign was not tattooed, so that part of the skin showed through. However, since this seems to be a personal statement about how you feel about coming out, perhaps you can find a symbol and make it your own without making the tatoo too overwrought. Meditate on that day and that moment. Think about what being gay, and coming out means to you. Perhaps the symbol will just come to you, if you relax and close out the world. Let your mind wonder but try to notice the things you think on and keep the idea of that day in your heart. Your symbol may even come to you in a dream after you have meditated on it. An eagle, a flower that is opening or what ever holds your truth. You will know the significance of the symbol and you can than explain it better to the curious folks who ask about your tatoo. .
Maybe you don't have to make it something so specifically gay, but something that represents to you personally what you have been through... You could try some chinese symbols that represent courage, strength etc or you could try talking to a gay tattoo artist in your local village they may be able to help customize something to you, but as said earlier, tattoos are for life, you better make sure you are going to appreciate it for the rest of your time here on this earth :-D
