Where in the world are you?
The best thing for snake mites, IMO is callingtons mite spray, I've had 100% success with it on the rare occasions I've needed it

Am pulling weeds on a hillside and planting a rock garden. Moved a large rock and scared two garter snakes that had made themselves a nice home there. Damn. They hurried off into the weeds I'm not pulling and am hoping the find the new pile of rocks and move back.

Snakes are very unique and cool creatures but I do have a fear of getting bitten by them.
