Do you not like the Daily Mail because it is judgmental, elitist and picks on minorities?

It still is/was climbing gear. It hit the "mainstream" about 6 years ago. There is no replacement for tried and true. Other options, But nothing like NF makes.

Scion cars are stamped toyota under every panel, So the person who bought a camery paid the same tax hike for the bells and whistles the lexus guy did. The scion guy got the same car and parts for half the price of both.

When I was in Tibet I haggled about 15 minutes for a North Face (ripoff) jacket. Eventually I offered something like 5$ and that was the max I was willing to pay, so I walked off when he refused.
He then called me back after half a minute or so saying he will sell it to me anyway. So I went back to his stall, saw him putting the jacket in a bag and gave it to me. I gave him the 5$, thanked him and walked off.

Back at my hostel I found out that the guy took out the inner, warm layer of the jacket, so I was left with just the outside. And ofcourse there was no way I could find his stall again in the confusion of the inner Lhasa market.

This was maybe 10 years ago and I still have the jacket and it's still in near perfect condition, which is definately not bad for a ripoff. I just wish it had the warm, inner layer for those cold winterdays.

i never really paid much attention. i know i see a lot of women wearing north face coats around here. i didn't realize it was an expensive brand though; i kind of assumed it was just the walmart brand or something. i also didn't realize they made men's coats. i'm out in the country where we all wear carhartts.

Not even remotely like a Walmart brand....

I spend a lot of time outdoors so I have a lot of North Face stuff and it is definitely not because of the name recognition factor, they just make quality stuff that is useful to my lifestyle.

They make really awesome waterproof pants that breathe so much better than raingear.

Not sure what you would be using waterproof pants for, but I use them for vegetation surveys in the rain or cross country skiing... ;)

I've never had anything North Face but I know what you mean, it's like an epidemic when you go to any middle class mall or neighborhood and see one on everybody. Maybe they are pretty good though.

A few years ago in early spring Alaska we had just got into town after a nasty fishing trip. Blowing hard, snow, freezing spray. Just a nasty shitty trip. With a lot of boats in town I got to see a bunch of friends. That afternoon we are all standing talking when Cory noticed we were all wearing North Face or Patagonia, he looks at me and says you know why we all wear north face and Patagonia don't you? BECAUSE IT WORKS

I have a north face windbreaker. When it's chilly and rainy I put on a hoodie under it and that thing WORKS. The only problem is if you burn a hole in it with a cig or blunt it is done.

Exactly! People always assume you are wearing a brand to be fashionable or that just because something is expensive that it is a ripoff. But sometimes things cost more because they actually work and last for a long time.

I have been wearing my Columbia winter coat for years now and it looks just like it did when I bought it. If I had gotten some cheap coat it would have fallen apart by now.

Maybe if you offered more than $5 for a damn winter coat you wouldn't be cold.

Maybe if you understand a little about the outside world you won't keep being such an ignorant redneck.

    That was so condescending.

Anyways, I've never heard about North Face before this thread.

No it's true. Some people just do not understand what's going on outside their own little world. Nobody who understands other cultures would make such a comment.
