i've been reading a bit on here, and everyone is talking about ego loss. i've done shrooms a number of times, and my last trip i felt really depressed and lost. is that ego loss, or just the occasional downer?

Ego loss is when you loose all sense of yourself, who you are, where you are...etc. For example, I did salvia, and during the peak I had "forgot" that I was in my room, that I had done salvia, and that I was even a person. None of this even mattered. I just was. During ego loss, you can't really think to yourself "oh wow, I'm experiencing ego loss right now", more like you look back on the experience and you realize it later. Also, I'm pretty sure that during true ego loss, you can't really feel any normal human emotions. In fact, during my salvia trip I was completely indifferent during the first few minutes, and when I started to regain my ego (realizing I was in my room, and that I was tripping on salvia), I actually started to panic. But there was no way I could've paniced before, because I didn't have any emotions or any sense of the world around me...

I hope this makes some sense.

candy roolin my friend had a ego loss for like almost a half hour.... he was balled up in a lil ball and as he came out of it slowly sprouted in a sence... he then stood up and walked straight into a wall...

he told me a few days later that he spoke to a really white light... white... not like the white vision... but something abnormal and something he cant even begin to explain...

ego loss is basically death. It's one of the most sought after states by many. It's kind of ironic though cause it's your ego that seeks out that state, then when you dont have one you cant really enjoy it, nor dislike it...your just sort of there. Imagine not imagining. But leave out the imagining part along with everything else.

    Indeed.

Ego loss is Oneness with all that is around you,
    And perhaps even beyond,
Where your physical self serves to protect the universe as a whole,
    All things, all people,
    Not just yourself.

Ego loss is death of all things unique about you.
Yet you live as part of something greater,
Rather than as separate from that something greater.

This "ego loss" experience reminds me of an experience I had with pot. I am an experienced pot user for about 2 years, but about a week ago, me and a friend were smoking from a lung, and I took a big hoot and held it for aprox. 10 seconds. My vision then dissappeared(smilar to a headrush when you stand up too fast) and lost my balance. But then after that rush passed, I forgot everything that was around me, who I was, where I was, and I only knew that I had gotten high on something but couldn't remember what. Until I finally saw the bong in my hand. This memory loss was accompanied by an intense feeling more intense than mushrooms were for me.

watching your personality slip away... then the often experienced 'panic' of dying... then a incredible burst into illumination...single.. point of... awareness....where one is all.... and all is one.. truth is love... and love is truth

    beautiful stuff aint it

dude, pot wont give you ego loss. you just got a headrush from lack of oxygen. your totally blowing things out of proportion... its like one of those seven year olds seeing a trippy poster or something and saying "i feel stoned" when they have no idea what it is... ego loss is way more than just forgetting where you are for a couple of seconds.

    Yes it will. Anything can.

It's not just a drug thing, ego loss was around way before psychedelics.

    Look into Transcendental meditation.

Pot can most definatly give you ego loss. You're the one talking shit, not the other guy.

No it defently can't!! Eat a 5 strip of some REAL hits or eat a 1/4 of mushies then we'll talk about ego loss. See the thing is marijuana is the exact opposite of what transcendental meditation attempts to achieve. Transcendental meditation, zen meditation, raja yoga, etc. can all cause ego loss, psychedellic substances can cause ego loss, marijuana can not! When you meditate and you attempt to lose your ego, you clear your mind, you just try to be.. its actually a very unhuman or maybe too human concept. You clear your mind of everything, and you simply exist, that is the concept of ego loss in meditation. Marijuana makes you think, it clouds your mind, and it makes it far harder to meditate. Pot won't do it, you'll smoke yourself to sleep before you achieve any sense of ego loss. Psychedellics can expose you to everything you can't face in regular conciousness, they truley make you lose your ego, they change you. And pot doesn't do this, it just doesn't. Trips and meditation, sleep deprivation, fasting, and ritual dancing if you do it long enough are the only things that produce this spiritual experience known as ego loss. That is it. Pot does not do this. I've smoked ounces with my friends, we laugh, talk pseudo-intellectually, eat, and sleep. Eat hits or do 6 hours of raja yoga, you lose your ego for better or worse.

That's not a bad thing, Chord. Probably better to regain your ego, just to function in the world, ya know. You had it, though. Rare experience. You remember it, so it's all good. :)

ok so for ego loss to happen u need to give in, does it happen on its own sometime, or can ppl make it happen if they want to, so lets say that i want to experience ego loss can i make it happen anytime, i dont mean by doing yoga or by meditation, im talking abt attaining ego loss strictly through psychedelic drugs

Ego loss is best defined as losing the preceptive distinction between your energy and the energy around you (the universe's)... essencially - becoming one with the universe ;)...
