I have always had normal, on-time periods and a week ago I started taking Celexa 20mgs and I got my period early which has never happened. When I looked up side effects of Celexa, it didn't mention that it can cause this to happen yet I've seen some forums that indicate that women have experienced missed periods which I'm sure isn't healthy for your body. I was wondering if anybody here has taken Celexa and experienced anything like this because I think I'm going to be calling my doctor tomorrow to get me off of this.

Celexa sounds pretty fucking dangerous to me, did you see that list of possible side effects, not to mention the withdraw oh and a 33 hour half life,,, that can't be healthy.
What do you take for? I agree with this guy

Fluoxetine (Prozac), the prototypical SSRI, is classified as a reproductive toxin.. Id bet Celexais is next in line or a runner up for the same award..

I take it for depression and anxiety. I'm on fence about what depression is. I went off of medication and had a really bad anxiety attack where I couldn't stop getting sick for a day and a half. Believe me, I want to be off of these pills. I'm hoping talk therapy will get me rolling in the right direction. I've been on these pills for 15 years.

I've been on Prozac for a few years in the past and that never messed with my periods though. That's scary that it's called a reproductive toxin :/

You need to cut back on these meds big business is pushing on you and start eating healthier, and start trying to be more self aware to see where these anxieties come from, imho

psychiatric medications can do all sorts of things to periods, call your doctor and let him know...

jared, that's an interesting article, but i've seen that idea propositioned before... usually by people who are lucky enough to never have dealt with crippling depression, or psychosis... it's easy to talk about when you've never been there

I've been eating healthier and have started to exercise and recently started meditating daily and trying to be more mindful. I'm not just taking the pills and relying on them 100%.

Yes I've been there, before suicide I had a trip on lsd which expanded my awareness to the point I realized I was the fault of everything, my own mental state, which I changed. I'm now happier then ever.

all i'm saying is, what works for some people may not work for others... fact of the matter is, medication is necessary for many people and it's not helpful to make blanket statements that meds are bad and that no one should take them

meds are probably overprescribed, they're not always an answer and they're never the only answer and need to be given along with therapy, diet, exercise, etc, but you can't say there's never a case where they could help stabilize someone in crisis/maintenance for a chronic severe condition that interferes with functioning. i don't see how you could argue that

I'm scared to death of stopping my meds because of the anxiety attacks and how severe they are. I'm talking to my psychiatrist tomorrow and I do trust his opinion because one of the first things he said to me was that he doesn't believe that anybody should be on a medication they don't need and that if he sees an improvement he will wean me off of it to see how I do without it. So I'll switch to something else for a little while and then get myself off of them. I just need to build up my "mental strength" first by meditating and just trying to change my outlook on life, etc.

I would try hypnotherapy if the anxiety really is that bad, I'd want to know where it came from. Good points Cherokee, evolving with the times, but I'd have to guess only a very small percentage of medications out there are really for any good. Maybe a Valium for the anxiety when you get it wouldn't be bad. Take it when you need it, not everyday to prevent it.

That's what I'm working on now with my therapist. To find out the root of what is causing this and trying to cope better. The only problem with me is that being on medication so long, my tolerance for benzos like Valium are incredibly high so I have to take a lot for it to do anything and I usually physically give out before my mind gives out unfortunately. I mean I went to the emergency room once for a medication induced anxiety attack and the shot they gave me only helped me for a couple of hours and later that night I smoked to ease it a little bit. I'm trying really hard. I need to start living life not just trying to get through it you know?

    switching to something else???..

This is like road crews digging up different sections of town, without notifying the drivers. neurons be like, this road is close, damn it was open yesterday, detour, oh another detour. before you know it, you got a traffic jam of shit going on. visualize your mind and you can see exactly what Im saying..

You'll get there sweetie. You're on the right path.
Awareness, intent on getting what and where you want, and know that what you want will happen, feel it, as if its already happened. Feel gratitude each and every day , just for being alive and well and the universe will provide. Maybe even try a reiki session!
Hope all goes well and would love to hear how things turn out for you in the future.

I get what you're saying but I'm switching because I was recently off medication and it didn't go well at all so I started the Celexa but it's interfering with my period which isn't good so I'm going to call my doc tomorrow to see if he can switch me to another medication because not being on medication right now isn't an option.
