Yes, I do still question her extreme dislike of Princess Diana. But Diana told personal truths (about herself and the Queen of England). And this simply is not done. Why? If something is true, then there is no need to hide away from the fact. But the Queen did a lot of hiding away - even after Diana's tragic death. A disgrace that cannot be covered up with time or insincere public announcements (IMO). QP
i hate the monarchy in general. they say princess Di was alright, maybe that's so. she did a lot of good work, anyway, and raised awareness of one of my personal favorite charities (the HALO foundation.) i don't really know anything about the queen's relationship with Diana although i expect that the supposed enmity between them is/was to a great extent, overblown by the media. seems to have been based largely on "insiders" in the royal household talking to tabloid journalists. (royal household "insiders" are notoriously reliable, it was they who first asserted that the royal family were man-eating lizards) she gets painted as being a normal person in a fucked up situation. maybe that's true, i dunno, seems likely, the monarchy is fucked up. her death was tragic, and a great loss, but a lot people are just sick of hearing about her from fawning royal obsessives who think she was the second coming of christ, and tabloid journalists who treat the royal family like a soap opera and relish the idea of impropriety, particularly sexual impropriety, in the house of Windsor. i was young when she died, but i remember the media going absolutely apeshit and most adults i knew being largely indifferent. Her death was a media event which put British television (and print, to a certain extent) journalism onto a path which robbed it of a great deal of value, and that's been the main repercussion i've felt in my lifetime.
Well, let's see: Her husband was having a long time affair with another woman. Diana began to suffer from anxiety, depression (and anorexia) as a result, and made the profound mistake of speaking the truth to the press. So she was made out to be some kind of media hungry celebrity. I wonder if things might have been much simpler if her husband had honored his marriage vows? Diana was no saint by any stretch of the imagination. But Prince Charles made a mockery of the royal marriage (so what was Diana to do?) Remain forever silent? That was how history expected women to behave in the past. And she proved that she was a woman of the future - simply by speaking out. And I (along with many others) admire her for that. QP
either way there'd have been no happiness. the nature and priorities of the royal family and the media's relationship to it ensure that.
why is a picture of the prince kissing dianna inspirational?..........imo its not....the fucking dude messed her up ''royally'' and now she's dead....where is the inspiration?
I was being ironic. The fucking dude did mess her up. Big time. She'd been better off not meeting such a cad. That's the lesson and tragedy: Beware the ones that bring you roses and false offers of love. Find the real kind. She taught us that. And that is her legacy and inspiration QP
not her only legacy, unfortunately. anyhoo, if we've vetoed pro-catholic pics, can i veto royal family pics? i know i brought them into the mix, but they make me wanna uke:
