What is this? I was told at my last exam that my doc wont be delivering my babe if its not his on call day. A total stranger would be! I was so upset by this and i dont understand why i have been relying on him for support , not to mention trust because he delivered my first babe, and i trust his abilities to do his job well!
I am going to another apt today and requesting that i be induced on his on call day so that i know he will be there. Its only 2 days before my due date. I know hes on call, this thursday. I cant beleive that they could do this, i mean labor is hard eneough not to mention getting everything ready, worrying about if its going to go smoothly. Having your doctor there should be the least of your worries, i would think anyways.

Had to vent and see what others think about this......please give me your input on how this would make you feel.

    That's standard hun.

When my mom was in labor with me over 21 years ago, her doctor was, ironically, out of town, giving a lecture on this very issue.

I wish i had an on-call doc when my daughter was born; instead, i was told not to push for over two hours while my child's head was crowning. There wasn't even a nurse in the room with me all that time, and had i been in my right mind, i would have taken my husband's advice and let him deliver her. Where was my doc? She was in the hospital, making her rounds. I've never been angrier, especailly since i never waited less than two hours in her waiting room for my prenatal appointments because "deliveries always take priority" yeah, unless it's my child apparently.

Im sorry that must have been just awful!!
You had every right to be pissed, they told my friend to hold it also, for 10 min when the babe was crowning because her doc wasnt even at the hospital yet.
And no nurse, god i could just imagine how scared i would have been if i was in your shoes. Im glad you and her are both okay after all that:)

    merry blessings

It sucks no one told you until now. My OBs would have you meet everyone in the practice, just so you would know who was delivering you. I got my favorite three out of four times, too.

One more reason those of us with access to good midwives and small birth centers should be eternally grateful for them. I'd also so this is a time to find the strength within yourself, and the trust you have for yourself will see you through. We are so much stronger than many men would lead us to believe, sisters.

That sucks, my Ob let me meet all the Drs she worked with before just in case. I was lucky and she delivered all my babies. i would not suggest having labor induced, it is a tricky thing to do just right, my second baby was induced and labor came on very hard and fast, I was lucky to have caring nurses and a wonderful dr to adjust the dosage. But I have heard horror storied of super hard labors and no releif or build up to help prepare the body. Of course you need to feel comfortable, but maybe you can just hope for the best. Most Drs don't actually stay around for the labor do they??? I always thought they pretty much just caught the baby. If you would feel more comfortable, how about writhing a birth plan that could be given to any DR on duty that states your wants and expectations.

In some hospitals you never see a vaginal birth on a Holiday. The staff wants to get home, and will section for any reason.

A birth doula would be a REALLY good idea. Then someone you know and trust will be there with you, no matter what doctor you have.

Also one of the risks of induction is "immaturity syndrome" these babies are techically term, but they have problems suckling and keeping warm and settling, even when their lungs are mature, which is one of things which HAVE to be tested before you are induced. My doc rarely does inductions, but if he has to,(which he does for medical reasons ONLY) or he has to do a planned C section he ALWAYS tests the lungs of the baby first. It can make the difference between a baby who can go home, or room in with you, and one who may have to be in the NICU or Special Care.

I wouldn't have had my last two sections without lung testing of the babies, I see too much unexpected prematurity and immaturity in my clients to let that happen to my babies. Talk to you doc and either scrap the induction (I would rather deliver a term, ready to be born baby with a stranger than a preterm baby with my "favorite" doctor, ) or make sure they test the lungs.

I was already schedualed to be induced, i wanted to pick on of his days if i was going to be anyways. almost at 40 wks, 2 days away from my date

However there was no room on the ward for me to be,wich was yest. But since the contractions im having have started to go regular we are waiting, it will probably be tonight since they have become way stronger and reg.
My health was the reason why we were talking about inducment, not being able to keep food down and already being in 2ce to have an iv given to me for 2 hrs a time. dehydration and the bladder infection i had was what we think started the labor 3 wks ahead of scheduale. Its now been almost a month of this, and now dialated to 4 cm and almost fully effaced, my body is def ready. My doc agrees and did a stripping of the membranes 4 days ago. Said it would help start reg contractions. So that i could come in on my own if there was no room on the day we schedualed. wich of coesr there wasnt so now we wait...

    keep ya posted:)

I hope you have a safe delivery. Sometimes it is best for the baby to be born as soon as possible, especially as you have been as sick as you have been.

I'll light a candle in antipation of your baby's birth.

Be safe and have a good birth.

Blessings to you and your family.

That pisses me off! A C-Section is MAJOR surgery. I am getting mad at doctors who push sections on women for "convience" reasons.

You have a lot of company VN girl! Mothers need to know childbirth well, and have someone there to advocate for them (being in the throes of Transiion Labor, you are in NO condition to try to advocate your POV when someone is trying to push an unnseccesary and or dangerous procedure on you!)
