Why is the Heart Icon so Ugly?

i was going to say: because if it looked like a real heart, not everyone would know what it was.

 

and yet, heart icons CAN be more attractive then the one in question.
critiquing a picture of a cat, is in no way an unkindness to cats themselves.

 

Hearty aches because heart breaks,even if it looks like a helium filled balloon,it's better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick.
