Does anyone here know how to take care of themselves and survive on their own either in a city, town, "rural", or "wild" place or all of them?~ How did you learn how to do that, who taught you?~ Is it scary to go out for the first time, or any time?~ How did you get through it all?~
I grew up on a farm. I can do all of that taught from my parents and family folk. Honestly as long as you have shelter, water and know how to cook you will be okay. Warm clothes too. I have some good camping gear too that can be used even in some of our most brutal cold weather and I have a big camping box filled with all the goods to survive. I don't camp a lot at the moment because it aggravates my back but I recently bought some soft mats that may help when I lay down.
Thank you for answering me, I'm at a weird place in my life.~ I want to join the Peace Corps, because I want someone to teach me how to survive on my own because no one's ever taught me.~ My parents did a good job bringing me up well, but I mean the ability to survive anywhere even with only your two hands.~ But I wouldn't need to join the Peace Corps if I learned how to survive on my own.~ I'm completely terrified of going out there, because I don't know how to survive and how to take care of myself.~ I want, no I NEED to know how to take care of myself and how to survive even when I have no money, no house, and no help.~ Because if I can survive anywhere with just my butt naked body, then I can survive anywhere and anything.~ I want to start my journey in life already, but I don't know how to survive.~
Never mind about the Military thing, I do not support violence and war as a means to solve anything at all.~ So no Military for me!~ ^_^ But still where could I learn how to survive anywhere, but not to kill but for some other purpose?~
Theres many options in the military i assume i'm not really sure , but the peace corps sounds cool but dangerous
True...Hmm just not sure where I'll end up, looks like a job isn't happening, hasn't happened in 3 years, I just feel like I should help someone somewhere through a government funded program before I REALLY go out on my own, sort of like a safety-net before hitting the ground running haha I guess I'm a coward but if a coward means someone who is afraid then that's me!~ ^_^
Hmm, I'm already 22.~ I honestly have no idea what I want to study and I don't want to waste my education years and money on looking for something learn about, although that could be fun!~ ^_^ I would really rather not wait any longer, I would leave my parents' house right now, but I have absoulutly no idea how to survive on my own in any environment.~ Plus ever since I was 16 I've working towards getting into the Peace Corps, I even read everything about it and dreamed about it, so when I was rejected from it I was crushed and it didn't help that my recruiter was an asshole who wouldn't admit when he was wrong.~ Apparently non-formal expierence doesn't count for shit even with an AA, you have to ALREADY have a Bachoaler's for ANY informal expierence to count, at least that's what my recruiter told me, but if that's right there EVERYTHING I read about the Peace Corps was a lie.~ But Anyways, I'm trying to go into the AmeriCorps now to qualify for the Peace Corps JUST BARELY, since the only thing I qualify for right now with an AA in Liberal Arts that I WANT to get into is Urban (or Rural) Youth Development and my degree works towards that, BUT I need also 1 year's expierenece in helping at-risk youth, so I signed up for AmeriCorps NCCC and told them the reasons why I'm joining.~ But yeah if I get enough expierence with living on my own the AmeriCorps NCCC or anything AmeriCorps then maybe I won't need to join the Peace Corps to learn how to survive without anything.~
I know what you mean, even if I complete the AmeriCorps, and I get the grant, how will I live on my own?~ I don't value money much at all, and would be perfectly happy living in a communal style place.~ Even if I figure it out how to live on my own and go to school, I refuse to ask for a loan and to get credit, because that's what got this country in such bad economical shape to begin with I think personally and I don't even know if I will like school, now that I think about it I've recently been saying that if I had to sit in one more classroom before exploring the world, I would throw my desk-chair-thing out the window, rip off my clothes and jump out the window running into the forest all the while screaming and howling like a monkey!!~ And I'm NOT kidding.~ I think maybe, I will do the AmeriCorps if for the only reason to at least pay off my parents because I don't like owing anything to anyone.~ After I complete it, if I get in, then I think maybe I could end up heading towards that hippies-commune-sea-ship-nomad-farm-project thing I heard about on the these forums.~ Why go out into life thinking you know everything, when learning as you go if half the fun and it's the whole point?!~ ^_^ Love, ~Bliss
I was under the impression that the purpose of the Peace Corps was to help people out in third world countries, not to help young Americans learn the very basics of how to get by in life.
See there was my mistake, I assumed because the Peace Corps teaches you how to purify you water, survival techniques, and other things they would be a good source to learn how to live without money.~
