Well, time does actually exist but the past and the future do not. The past and the future exist only in the form of concepts, time however is also a human concept but it is also the thing we are stuck in. Perhaps it is better described as space-time? We can see that time passes because of the moving of the sun and moon and things like erosion and aging for example. Just because we are the only species as far as we know that measure time does not mean we have invented time.
I agree. But what is a concept, even, if you can make it a reality. The now is almost just as conceptual. Are you ever in it?
What really troubles me about time is direction. If it's relative to the observer, as everyone says, and the observers are all moving in every conceivable direction, then is there really a straight arrow of time? Is there really a shared direction "forward" in time, just because we all happen to still be alive moment to moment?
To say that time doesn't exist is like saying that words don't exist. They exist for the purpose of reference. They both allow us to evoke commonality. They both point to something else.
Of course, we are in the now by default. We might not be consciously aware of the exact moment we are in (because it has passed before we finish the thought) but we can't be anywhere else than in the now. Just as time, the now is both a concept AND the thing we are stuck in. Does that mean we can say time is nothing since there is always only a now? No, just because there only exists one now at a time does not mean time isn't elapsing. So technically we are always travelling in time, just (relatively) slow and only forwards
Technically we only think we are travelling in time, because we created such a monster, but in reality there is nothing but chaos and change. And maybe some order.
I thought in general we do not think of ourselves as travelling in time, we always want to travel into time but we rarely state we do so chronically And yes there is a lot of chaos and change and the universe seem to thrive on the action - reaction principle but the order we try to gave to it through for instance the concept of time is based on the experience with and observation of the passing of time.
There is light and there is matter. If there would be time, then light wouldn't matter and if matter would be light it would be timeless.
Time and matter influence each other. That's why humans came up with the concept of space time (continuum). In this universe were everything seems to be under the influence of space time we will always have to deal with time, gravity and chaos, even when we are blissfully ignorant of them.
Ha, so you don't know the Dutch scientist who claims that gravity doesn't exist? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyomGtZCsmI"]Erik Verlinde: A new explanation of gravity - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hByJBdQXjXU"]Erik Verlinde: Gravity Doesn't Exist - YouTube
Matter is condensed energy. Light is communication of energy. Light = energy = matter I don't think time is a fundamental ticking clock that's part of the fabric of "space-time"... I'm now thinking time is a creation or a side-effect of the condensation of light into energy/matter. So time is local to matter... in a vacuum, time does not exist until it is no longer a vacuum.
It does not exist inside the vacuum but it does elapse outside the vaccum. I'm thinking of the example of canned beans here. I'll check those vids later, bird! I only know that guy by name.
A black hole is still matter and light, just because it doesn't emit anything apart from the radiation near its surface, does not mean that its free from light. Only that the light is stuck looping back on itself and not free to go anywhere. I also think its a simpler explanation for a black holes effect on a beam of light... the "photon" or wave would not necessarily have to show the properties as if it had mass.
Yes-silly,but look in the mirror today. Look in the mirror 20 years from now. See if you feel the same. Some passage of what I consider time has passed ,looking in my mirror these days. The passage of what is considered time is necessary for ANYTHING AT ALL to exist. Otherwise, what would be observed(if anyTHING could observe ) would be merely a tableau.
Time is just a word created by man to make it seem like we have control. We are all in a constant cycle of motion that has no beginning or end.
Time is perception and a way for our minds to process reality. Without time all things exist simultaneously into different dimensions all around us. ~ Just my theory:sunny:
