I know it's old news but I've only recently discovered the philosophical teachings of Allan Watts I really like his perspective on the universe. Has anyone else heard of him? I'm assuming yes as it seems as though he was a big part of the hippy movement to the point where he even did a test trial on LSD Here's one of his lectures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnRsi-MZ8U8&sns=em"]The Real You Alan Watts 360p - YouTube
They play his lectures on a locally owned radio station (KKUP 91.5 FM Cupertino, CA) every Tuesday at noon just before their old radio drama show at 2pm. Good listening!
Yes I've seen a few films about Alan on youtube. He was a good egg.Was a heavy drinker though by all accounts.
First encountered Mr. Watts back in '70 when I stumbled upon The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are, at the college bookstore. I immediately read every book I could find that he had written. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwXEB49In1w"]Van Morrison - Alan Watts Blues(original-HD) - YouTube Alan Watts Blues by Van Morrison Lyrics:Well I'm taking some time with my quiet friend Well I'm takin' some time on my own. Well I'm makin' some plans for my getaway There'll be blue skies shining up above When I'm cloud hidden Cloud hidden Whereabouts unknown Well I've got to get out of the rat-race now I'm tired of the ways of mice and men And the empires all turning into rust again. Out of everything nothing remains the same That's why I'm cloud hidden Cloud hidden Whereabouts unknown Bridge Sittin' up on the mountain-top in my solitude Where the morning fog comes rollin' in Just might do me some good. Well I'm waiting in the clearing with my motor on Well it's time to get back to the town again Where the air is sweet and fresh in the countryside Well it won't be long before I'll be back here again
It's from the Poetic Champions album. I thought he mentioned him in the lyrics of another song...but I can't find it. He has so many albums.
Absolute legend in his own right. For me he is THE most influential thinker in my life. The way he communicates such abstract subjects is just.. incredible. He tells it how it is, and makes it as obvious as it is, and I love his sense of humour.
I too had no idea Van had anything to do with Watts. That's fucking cool. Anyway, I too have been deeply affected by Alan Watts. Once you get that sense of what he's trying to communicate, you really can start to dance!
Alan Watts was one of the original Beat writers, as in Beatniks. Here's the entire interview, and the entire magazine! It's quite long and the quote above is a couple pages deep. Check out the ad on the first page for his latest book and who does the forward.
I really like alan watts and his teaching style he taught me to just let things flow before when I used to get angry I tried to fight it but now I learned to just let things flow
