Hiya, i'm looking for a good documentary on paranormal, supernatural, eerie or chilling subject matter. not necessarily ghosts or demonic possessions (although those'd be good), but certainly something to set off the shivers. I'd also be well up for any good documentary on the origins of the vampire myths in eastern europe etc. preferably a documentary without the use of poor special effect sections and badly CG'd cut-aways to make up for actual content.

also anything which features a montage of grainy black and white photography set to heavy metal is automatically out along with MOST films which feature a section in which people stumble around in a dark room with a night vision camera pretending to be scared.

d'you know any good ones? it'd help me out.

Good luck with that. Most of them are targeted at usual tv audience, therefore you wont probably find what you want. I'd search for internet articles though, some of them can be good.

yeah, i seem to keep coming across these crap things made by the sci-fi channel. interesting subject matter but handled in such a ridiculously OTT manner as to kill any atmosphere. or those things where a team of "paranormal investigators" walk around an old hospital with intense looks on their faces, talking like they're negotiating their way through a particularly troublesome trip to the toilet, with all the chemistry and rapport of a dead hamster. give me strength...

thing is, i recently enjoyed watching a doc called "ghosts on the underground" (mainly because i really like the underground here), and was wondering if there was more of the same. didn't talk down to the audience or try for cheap scares, treated what the interviewees were saying with a pinch of salt. good doc, that.

although this is still by far the best documentary on the supernatural that i've ever seen, despite being made in 1922

This one's alright too. whether or not you believe in ghosts (i don't, although i don't doubt the sincerity of most of the people who claim to have seen them, not do i think that the fact that ghosts have no basis independent of those who perceive them makes them any less "real" ) , its a really fascinating story, and this documentary manages to paint a compelling picture of, if nothing else, a great media sensation:

I saw one on IFC a few months ago that's definitely worth watching. It's filmed in the home movie/documentary style, and believe me, it will rattle you. It's called "Home Movie", and stars Adrian Pasdar, whom you may or may not remember from the 1987 "redneck vampire" movie "Near Dark". Here is the plot summary from IMDB:

Documents one family's descent into darkness, using a compilation of found home-made footage. In the remote woods of upstate New York, the Poe family lives a Norman Rockwell life. Perfect house. Perfect marriage. If only the children stopped stapling frogs to trees. Something is very wrong with ten-year old twins, Jack and Emily Poe. And, to stop them, their parents must enter the nightmare of their minds. The only question is: who will survive the night?

Okay I don't know how many pp still look at this forum here but I have a paranormal documentary that blow me away, is called "The Afterlife Investigations The Scole Experiment". I'm a big fan of the paranormal and a believer and investigator myself so this was right up my alley. This movie will make a believer outta almost anybody. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qSEi_sfaSU
