I'm all for equality, I'm just thinking about the added tourist dollars for NZ now that its legal. I know I'm looking forward to going to some of my friends weddings!

enlightenment might be a somewhat relative term, but there is something demonstrably fucking awesome goin' on when the viewing gallery in your commons spontaneously bursts into song to celebrate a piece of legislation.

I am all for anyone getting married if they're dumb enough to want it.

Personally, I find the whole gay marriage issue a bit boring.

It's a very polarizing issue, so it's very beneficial to those with a political agenda on both sides.

 

It's one of those wedge issues. Not highly critical to the nation but one that politicians use to manipulate voters to go to either one side or the other.

 

It is sad that marriage is so regulated in the world that it would scare the shit out of many to even think about it or getting out of it.
I think the whole marriage thing should be unregulated and all the privileges revoked .. Take friendship for example, you don't need your friendship to be 'legalized' by the government.

 

Its been funny how dramatically the political talk from seemingly all sides of our (Aussie) political system has changed since this.

Its like all of a sudden, who cares about the marriage thing, we cant have the kiwis beating as anything

So if we dont let lesbians marry, the kiwis will beat us at cricket......should have been our strategy all along

 

friendship doesn't consolidate the class system by discouraging inter-generational social mobility. there's a reason the government gives tax breaks to married couples, and it ain't because they're happy for them
