And another one bites the dust. His opening performance at Woodstock lasted almost three hours with several encores. The song Fairlight posted was based on an old spiritual called Motherless Child that he improvised into Freedom when he had run out of material. A spirit of true freedom and love.
'67 or '68. I went to Bill Grahams venue in SF to see Pink Floyd,but they got snowed in somewhere back east. Fortunately ,Ritchie Havens filled in for them and it was amazing. His guitar was really beaten to shit from his frenetic playing. RIP,brother.
Once again, I'm so thankful for recorded music. RIP Richie. You have to wonder, or I do, if some of these souls just don't expire from a broken heart when they see how the world has turned out...
