Okay so I've gotten heavily into all this barefoot thing and I'm quite sure a lot of people think I've gone completely bat shit crazy. I had to give up runnin about six years ago due to bad knees.

Thing is, I've started again recently, only this time I'm doing it in part without shoes and in part in minimalist shoes with a view to gradually increasing my barefoot mileage til I no longer have need of shoes and can go on many, many barefoot adventures, which I intend to keep a log of.

I've even created a blog about the experience.

Bring me solace friends and assure me that I am not a few beers short of a six pack. lol

Your'e definitely not mad to go barefoot running. Don't know all the technical stuff, but everything I have read confirms barefoot running is definitely better for you. I do alot of barefoot walking round the neighbourhood and its definitely better for my posture, muscles etc. I say go for it!

You're not insane. It's a choice and that is a basic human right. Barefoot running is popular and apparently healthy. I know there is a lot of talk about it on the net.

  4. Only some dumb-shit Irishman would be stewed enough to use some dumb-ass expression like "bat-shit" when WE AMERICANS LOVE Batman and KNOW that it is WRONG-WRONG-WRONG to employ a dumb-ass cliche like "six-pack" because WE AMERICANS KNOW all Irish do not drink like blarney demons like this son-of-the-auld sod obviously does. SO SOD OFF!!! Ireland for the Irish!!!!
And, fer the sheer tellin' of it, go bar-foot. Fook 'em all ennyways.

    /facepalm

Ain't nothing insane about wanting to do it natural.
Awesome that you're slowly ramping up. Just make sure that your gait is correct. It takes time to unlearn shod running and incorrect footfalls and posture can set a guy back.

  6. I love going barefoot. Yes, it takes a while (or quite a while) to get past the self-consciousness thing, but even as you do so YOU'RE GOING BAREFOOT and THEY aren't! ENJOY YOUR SELF!

Hey, thanks for all the replies guys!!

And to the guy that was talking about Batman - I love Batman!

Also - not everyone drinks excessively in Ireland - we call it having a social life!!

Seriously though, it is a bit of a problem here.

Yeah, I get big into reading about stuff before I try it and make my decision then as to whether or not if it has any substance.

It's simple though - running in shoes always caused me knee, hip and ankle pain - barefoot doesn't! I don't need to read anymore but I still like to.

I've never considered myself a hippy or anything but I'm starting to think all of the world's modern comforts make you weak and am seriously starting to think beds and chairs and shoes ruin your body and am tempted to get rid of the lot.

I have read lots about back and posture problems being related to beds and chairs....hmmmmm

    Thanks!

Jeez, you're all great!! I even like 'nuspieds'. Reminds me of something I might have said when I was a teenager and full of angst.

  12. Batman here (NOT!)...To tell you the simplest truth, going barefoot IS better. There is nothing (NOTHING) that simulates the engineering of the evolved human body. Everything we wear (EVERYTHING) is a social convention that hides and distorts. Running and hiking barefoot are enjoyable and healthy exercises---the problem is that they go against social convention, but then discriminating forcefully against women, blacks, Jews, Chinese, American Indians, etc. etc., used to go against social convention too.
DO IT BAREFOOT! You'll (we'll) be better for it.

  13. I appreciate your understanding. Humor IS "Risky Business." (GO AWAY, TOM CRUISE) :)

    lol!

Tom Cruise has Irish roots apparently. He was on the news here two weeks ago as some crowd did a genealogy study on him.

    :afro:

P.S: Humour sure is "Risky". The last office I was in were in stitches when I made a slightly offensive joke - but then when I made the same joke in the canteen the whole table were stunned to silence.

Don't worry - I'm well in touch with the dark side of the force!

First rule of comedy is to know your audience. ;)

Tom: English and Irish roots...does that mean he hates himself?

Always kicked my ass that I never got duel citizenship before it was too late.

I'm just back from running a half marathon in my minimalist shoes!

I know, I know - this is all about barefooting but I'm getting there.

A fellow runner said: "Is running this your goal for the year"

I said: "No, I want to run a half marathon in Dublin in September with no socks or shoes"

He said: "Why the fu*k would you want to do that?"

I said: "To prove a point!!

He said: "What? that you're mad in the head is it?"

I laughed and said: "I'd probably say the same in your shoes!"

    True story!

    ;-)
