Why Did We Start Barefooting?

Discussion in 'Barefoot' started by Deleted member 159087, Apr 24, 2013.

  1. People have so many reasons and so many backgrounds that it's interesting (maybe) to find out how we all found our way to SUCH BIZARRE BEHAVIOR!
I was certainly the horny teen who ogled barefoot girls in the summer and wanted to find out "what's it all about, Alfie." Sonofagun, I liked it, too, and kept at it when I could.

i don't know, i was born and then i didn't put on shoes when i didn't have to.

  5. Yes! Yes!
But these are the reasons (as in "DUH!!") we CONTINUE going barefoot. I was asking about how/why people got into it in the first place. Like, childhood associations, aging joints, different cultures (New Zealand vs. THE REST OF THE GODDAMN WORLD), stuff like that. Or maybe just "The Beverly Hillbillies": "Take yer SHOOZ off. Y'all come back now, hear?"

As a little kid I've always loved to feel different textures under my feet; sand, grass, stone, etc.
I'm also blessed with hobbit feet; very large, long, tough feet for a girl my age and size.
So I've always had relatively tough feet and just preferred barefoot. I like to walk down to the beach from my apartment, and a couple miles back and forth on the beach, all barefoot. Feels AMAZING; plus it's easier to climb barefoot, and my feet are so big I can grip, plus my yoga helps with all this.

May parents are pretty progressive and when I was growing up in the '70's we lived in the Haight-Ashbury area of SF. Barefoot was part of the uniform back then for kids. If you wore shoes you were not cool. Up until I was 10 I was home schooled and hung out with other kids like me. We all went barefoot when we could, it was a sign of being cool and rebellious.

When I reached my teens I dabbled with being 'fashionable' due to a little peer pressure and tried all sorts of crazy shoes but it didnt work for me and I returned to my comfortable, scruffy self :)

I suppose I've been barefoot 24/7 for the past 12yrs. Previously I wore the odd pair of sandals and I had a love of combat boots in my late teens when I went through a Goth phaze.

I'm comfortable barefoot. I don't like the feeling of shoes on my feet and would not ever pay the rediculous prices for a pair. I don't need shoes, simple as that. If I don't need them, why have them?

Unlike some I've never had any problems with being barefoot. People accept me for who I am. I live now in the UK where there seems to be a 'whatever' attitude to barefeet. I do admit I have to wear a pair of safety boots once a month for an hour when I pick up potatoes from a local farm for my business due to our old friend Health & Safety. Otherwise I'm barefoot all the time.

Yeah definitely cultural/social for me down here in New Zealand. Grew up not needing them or wanting to wear them and no hassle from parents, and like many people down here felt no pressure to conform or be coerced by busybodies into wearing shoes. This freedom continues as many of my friends encourage their children to be barefoot anywhere they want, and they themselves enjoy the lifestyle.

When I was growing up, it wasn't uncommon in Southern US small towns, especially for young girls. I never saw any reason to change my habits. I still don't understand how this ever became a controversial subject. Now, it's kind of fun to annoy the uptight control freaks.

It was an experiment! My knees kept getting screwed up in shoes and I hadn't run in years - couldn't even run half a mile without jolting pains in my knees.

Then, one day, I had the mad idea of running barefoot. I ran, albeit slow, a mile and a half with zero pain in my knees.

Had a couple of nasty blisters mind - but still - it opened up a new world of possibility.

shoes & socks make your feet sweat & stink: barefooting keeps them dry & fungus-free, simple as that. it also isolates the muscles in your feet and calves, as well as your core and lower back. its natural. footwear is not.

streets may be filthy, but if youre wearin shoes then youre walkin around in your own stanky bacteria anyway, while the barefooters' peds will look and smell better, as well as outperform the shoe-wearer in the long run.:)

If I'd see someone pooping on the sidewalk I'd give 'em a push so he/she would roll over their own poop. Unfortunately, this never happened.
