Hi I play the acoustic guitar but I can't read tabs nomatter what i do. websites don't help either. Can somebody help me?
Ya got six lines, representing the guitar's six strings. The uppermost line corresponds with the guitar's highest string (pitch-wise), and so on down. The numbers on the lines tell you at which fret to play the string the particular line represents. There isn't much way for timing to be expressed through this, but numbers arranged vertically are sounded together harmonically.
-Tiny String - - - - -Big String Numbers mean where you mash your finger on and pluck / = Slide Down the neck (higher tone) \ = Slide Up the neck (lower tone) ^ = Bend (X) = X is number, barely pluck the note with thumb X = Dead note Anything Else?
Not relating to the acoustic guitar, unless you play one of those Martin alternative X's with the bigsby vibrato. ~~~~ - Tremolo bends
You take the string that's represented and the number (fret). Then, on your guitar, you find that string and that fret. Push down on the string above the fret. Not directly ON the fret, mind, but in the above it. Then when you play that string, you'll get the intended note. For example, say I wanted to play this simple thing: e--------- B--------- G---5----- D--------- A--------- E--------- I find that string on my guitar, the G. Three above the big string, two below the top tiny one. The number on the tab is 5, so I need to find the fifth fret and push down on the string in the space right above that. Like so... And that's how it goes, really. Just locate the strings and apply pressure above the fret and voila, you're reading and playing tabs. Is that what you're asking? Sorry if this seems oversimplified, I'm really not trying to patronize you here. Hope this works for you!
If there are multiple numbers in the same space vertically (on different strings) then you just have to play all of them at once, kinda like playing a chord. e---2--- B---3--- G---2--- D------- A------- E------- Vaguely how it would look: But when there are a series of numbers on one line/string (or across several), you just have to play them in order, pretty much. It's like reading a book, just go from left to right. Play it so that it sounds close to the song you're trying to play, or to whatever is in your head if you're writing something. "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" e---------0-0------------------- B-----3-3-----3--1-1-0-0-------- G-0-0--------------------2-2-0-- D------------------------------- A------------------------------- E------------------------------- Start from the left. Play two G's. Continue right. That doesn't mean you skip all the way over to the "2-2-0" at the end of G's line. You go to the next closest thing to the right, and in this case, that involves going up and right to B. Put pressure on the third fret of the second string, play it twice. Then you have to go right and up again. Play the top string open twice. Then as you keep going right, you go down instead of up. You just follow it. Is this what you're looking for?
one more question if you have this e--------- B--------- G-0----0- D-2----2- A---3---- E-3----3-- how do you play it? and sometimes the're is a chord under it ,what does it mean?
Allright, if the 2 numbers are on top of each other, like ur 0 and ur 2 for example ur gonna wanna hit both strings, like one after another, like hit em both, like u would a cord... i hope u know what I mean, its rather hard to describe without visual aid.
