It's not really socialist healthcare. It's mandated capitalism and mandated profit for the insurance industry. It's a really horrible piece of legislation although I'll hold all judgement until it completely goes into effect.

Yeah, that's true. The loophole they are using is calling it a tax instead of fine, if you don't have insurance by next year.

And I will pass judgement.. I'm already paying twice as much with less benefits offered to me, I can only imagine how much worse it is going to get for someone in my position.

They should've left the system alone, or cut federal spending (ie drug war) and subsidized the industry or make it outright universal healthcare. As much as I disagree with that, I think that would have been better than this horrible idea.

The American healthcare system is in shambles as far as cost and access so I don't necessarily think they should have left it alone but I think our president and legislature would have watered down or completely fucked up any idea brought to the table. I don't have a lot of faith that America could institute universal healthcare successfully, or do any kind of healthcare reform successfully to be honest. There is too much profit motivation for anything to be truly beneficial to the average citizen.

I'm all for universal healthcare in theory. A lot of nations use a much smaller percentage of their gdp for universal healthcare than America does to cover Medicaid and Medicare for the young and old. That's not even taking into account the cost of insurance premiums and deductibles. The cost of healthcare in this country is ridiculous.

Mandated capitalism is a more accurate description. The healthcare system in the U.S. is still a private system, even with the new personal mandate.

I don't mind going to the doctor too much, but I really hate the dentist. I haven't gone for years, although I probably should, I have had some problems with my gums and my teeth have gone a little out of alignment since I stopped wearing my retainer some years ago (obviously my own choice). I want to get veneers when I can afford them. Apart from that the problems are pretty minor, I don't eat a lot of sugar or processed foods, I think that helps.

Let's not forget that there are doctors and there are doctors.
My father in law was a surgeon, and while I hate going to my family doctor if I ever break my leg and see a bone sticking out the side you can be assured I will be looking for a doctor.

When I go for a checkup my blood pressure is always high, so I bought a cuff to check it myself and kept a record and it's perfectly normal. I just get upset going to the office.

Two checkups ago after the old prostate check I was told I had a hard spot, so the doc set up an autopsy deal before the PSA test came back. Boy was that fun. Turned out everything was fine. My new doc asked why they did that and said it was completely unnecessary.

I have no fear of the dentist as I remember the old school dentists who had only belt driven drills. You did get a nice little bottle of mercury to play with after you were done screaming.

My best experience was getting three wisdom teeth extracted in the chair by the hippie dentist while on novacaine and nitrous and wearing headphones and listening to Hendrix. He kept asking if I wanted more nitrous. Then I had to drive home.

The hippie dentist should have given you some novacane, nitrous, and Hendrix too. :)

Meagain... I need to find a dentist like that. I really need to find a dentist that'll do nitrious or some type of sedation for my cavities cause I'm afraid I'm gonna jump outta the chair otherwise...

So, yeah, still gotta deal with the dentist. Think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and call this week. Cause I went to the doc on Sat and looks like I'm just freaking nuts and nothing was wrong with me... actually I think it was just something normal but diff that happened and then I made the mistake of searching symptoms online which I know better than to do that... but did it anyways. So, anyways, I'm glad I went to the doc even though nothing was wrong... *rolls eyes*

(and afterwards I went and bought shoes. yay)

yeah, that is exactly what I need to do. cause I mean come on now... once it's over n done with I know i'll feel sooo much better and so proud of myself for doing it. and for SURE don't want it to get worse. yikes.

and yea I also have bad anxiety issues which I don't medicate at all anymore but the dentist thing I think is a phobia too. I mean having a baby didn't even scare me-pain wise.. it's just something about the dentist and shots. in.your.mouth.

I hate teeth and feet too. I've been talking lately about how much I hate feet. My son has these videos where for some odd reason they like to show someone's foot and count toes all the time and it makes me feel sick... kinda like that nails on blackboard type feeling.

And well, child birth... epidurals exist for a reason.. :sunny: I was actually more afraid of the epidural than anything (I mean, come on now a HUUGE needle in your back and it takes ten mins or so...)... but by the time I was ready for epidural- let's just say I didn't even feel it. lol.

I'm really lucky in that aspect because Dan works for UNFI (United Natural Foods Inc) which distributes natural and health foods and stores in PA, NY, CT, etc.- anyways we get to order stuff for a big discount off of the prices that the stores get. So, this is why I'm always eating seaweed and drinking bragg apple cider vinegar daily ... as well as most of the other food I eat comes from there and I wouldn't be able to afford it if it wasn't so cheap.

And supplements- I've really been into getting different things from the Rainbow Light brand- digestive enzymes, diff cleanse supplements, fish oil/glucosamine, etc.- In any case, some of the products I get I see at natural food/health stores for about $20 or $30 and I get them for about $6 to $9 depending so my point is I'm very glad I can afford to take the better supplements... because I am strongly against taking cheap supplements that don't even break down correctly in your body and are often robbed of the very things they are supposed to contain.

In any case I do wanna add something that's kinda going off on something, but the more I've researched chronic conditions (candida-which many people have, it's not just yeast infections and athletes foot..), high bp, arthritis, anxiety, depression, etc... The more I've come to realize that I do not (totally) subscribe to the germ theory.

Germs don't make people sick... people get sick because there bodies are unbalanced. A body that consumes the correct food (and you really gotta be careful with no called healthy foods... nuts for example need to be processed a certain way, and I'm talking even unsalted ones...and gotta watch mercury in fish-obviously, etc.). In any case, of course germs exist but if you keep your body balanced correctly by eating the things that are actually supposed to be eaten and not eating the other things your body is able to heal and correct itself.

That said, that is very hard to do in modern times. Not impossible, but not easy.

(in any case this is all great for prevention and often for treatment/cure also but that doesn't mean that I believe that if someone has, say, a tumor, they shouldn't seek out western medicine. but I do also believe that there are diseases (unbalances of the body) that most western doctors do not either know or admit exist and if you fix those things by yourself or through alternative health practitioners you can also fix many problems like MS, high bp, anxiety/depression and probably even prevent cancer. time and a place I suppose for both)

Germ theory doesn't mean that germs are the only thing that make people sick, or that all germs make you sick. Just that infections are caused by certain bacteria/viruses/fungi. High bp, depression, etc that you mentioned obviously aren't caused by bacteria. Germ theory still holds true, it's just that there's more to disease than infections.

Germs can make people sick if they have weakened immune systems from poor diet or being run down from stress, lack of sleep, etc. I guess that is basically what you're saying, Trish. I know getting enough vitamin D and taking whey protein powder really keeps my immune system strong.

    Don't forget genetics.

If you have bad genes, you are inclined to get dis-eases related to those bad genes.

    Teeth are an example.
