Anyone know of her? She is one of my favourite artists.

"Born November 30, 1946 in Belgrade, Serbia is a New York-based Serbian performance artist who began her career in the early 1970s. Abramović's work explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind."

I especially love the work she did with Ulay.

Marina & Ulay - Death Self

"To create this Death Self, the two performers devised a piece in which they connected their mouths and took in each other’s exhaled breaths until they had used up all of the available oxygen. Seventeen minutes after the beginning of the performance they both fell to the floor unconscious, their lungs having filled with carbon dioxide. This personal piece explored the idea of an individual’s ability to absorb the life of another person, exchanging and destroying it."

ANYWAY, that's just some of their work together. The stuff she did by herself was also very inspiring, like Rhythm 0 (which you could probably go read about yourself, this post is getting very long)

What do you think about her?

I have heard of Marina only recently. My daughter shares the same name so I was looking up people with this name and came across Ms. Abramovic. I was an art student for many years and I am not strange to performance art, in my opinion, Marina is one of the most hard core artists of her time. Some people think she is a complete lunatic but aren't artists usually a bit eccentric? That is what makes her so special. Rhythm 0 is especially disturbing but prolific at the same time if that makes sense

Everyone always says to face your fears and that the mind is more powerful than we think - then when someone finally does, they're called lunatics

She is one of my favourite artists, truly, she's really inspired me to get into performance art.

Have you seen The Artist Is Present? It takes you through her past as an artist and lets you see the background of all that was going on through her art exhibit at MoMA. It's a very beautiful documentary.

I have not seen the Artist is Present but I think it is really cool that you are inspired by Marina. This is what being an artist is all about. It is nice to meet someone else who appreciates things like this. Marina is truly original with her creativity, I like that her style sets her apart so drastically from other performance artists.

I've seen The Artist is present a few weeks ago and now I love and respect her work even more. She is so inspiring and fearless.
