To people who are relatively new to going out in public barefoot, I have a recommendation. If you have a couple or more weeks in vacation or from college, get rid of all of your shoes and socks. If you can't afford to throw them away, then lock them in a locker somewhere. That way you have to go everywhere barefoot. I did it once when I was kinda new to going places without shoes and it was quite a rush.
Yes it is amazing. Into my 2nd week of having no shoes. Starts out feeling self conscious but after a bit its pretty cool knowing you have to do everything barefoot. Got no shoes so got no choice.
I don't get rid of shoes. I have not worn any shoes in about 10 days. My feet are use to the ground. I did get some soreness in my posterior tibialis muscle on one leg and in the calf muscle on the other. Muscle pain goes away after the muscles adjust.
I miss the days when I lived in a beach cabin all summer every year. I would love to bee bare foot all the time now, except in winter which is most of the year here. Bare foot all the time was great when I was young and living in the beach cabin. Even in town was safe then, but our town now has a drug problem so you have to protect your feet from discarded needles. I still like to be bare foot at home though, but my feet have become very sensitive over the years, so I have to cushion them on rough on hard services.
it seems like if you want to wear shoes so badly that the only way to stop yourself is throwing them away, then maybe you should just wear shoes. isn't the whole point of barefooting supposed to be freedom to dress your feet as you want, or something?
I find it interesting that so many people make such an effort to go barefoot to make a point, or to accessorize their identity with bare feet. I go barefoot when i'm too lazy to put shoes and socks on. it has nothing to do with identity. The more you do it, the rougher surfaces don't bother you as much.
Thats completely missing the OP's point. If you have no shoes you have no choice but to go barefoot everywhere for everything. No getting intimidated and putting shoes on. Everything, Dr's office, mall, bank, movies all has to be done barefoot. Its not as easy as it sounds when you first start. I took his advice the last 2 summers and it is amazing to know u have to live barefoot and u just have to ignore looks and no shoes signs and hope errands are done before you get thrown out of a store. Besides a new perspective you end up with very tough and dirty soles.
cool not to use shoes? U must be living in Dayton, Australia I guess. But really thats the point it is cool not to use them, its just that most people do it once in a while. What he was suggesting is not to have that choice.
