    Black metal focussed viking metal like Kampfar, Tsjuder, Windir, Thyrfing and old Enslaved. Falkenbach can really hit it on the nail as well. One of my favourite viking metal albums will always stay Helheim - Jormundgand!

    -I bought this album for $5 and maybe an extra $2 shipping when it came out. It's an "EP" but really this song is the first 10 minutes of 30. The whole album is over an hour worth of damn fine material. One of my favorite bands right there.

    I'm big into the genre, message me if you want to know more.

    Finnish folk metal is rarely viking themed and Rhapsody (of fire) has nothing in common with viking metal at all...

    If we had a folk metal thread we could throw anything 'folk' in it including viking and troll metal :p I say just make a folk metal thread! There was one but it included gothic metal for some reason...

    Einherjer, Falkenbach, some stuff by Borknagar, Mithotyn... used to love this kind of music as a teen, must be something in our collective unconscious that makes the myths so alluring.

    I used to listen to heaps of the shit but mostly can't stand it now. One band I still like is Arckanum. The music is fucking awesome (raw black metal no real folky elements) and the basic theme of it is "Hail Chaos, Hail the Giants, Fuck the Aesir, Smite Odin Smite Thor Smite Asgard. Burn down the god damn cosmos" which I find far more appealing than all the heathen-pride anti-christian shit I used to be into.
