The main 2 problems people always associate with Facebook: the culture, and government access. One of these problems can be remedied. Facebook is a tool, and you don't have to subscribe to the materialistic social culture of our time in order to use it. There are MANY helpful pages on there that gather like-minded individuals. Whether it's spiritual advice, social/political awareness, food awareness, links to concert tickets, finding news that sparks your interest, information you would not know otherwise. Heck, even getting connected with someone you wouldn't have otherwise. Heck, there's even a cool dude on Facebook called Hippie Trip you guys should add. I'll repeat the bit about spiritual advice: there are MANY amazing pages and resources that have personally helped me on my quest. Lots of advice, quotes, links and images I wouldn't have found otherwise. I've experienced both the good and bad of Facebook. But same with YouTube. And the Internet as a whole, as a matter of fact. As for the government, as long as you're not involved with dealing, honestly they don't care. Storing your information-well, I'm of the thought that they're not going to last long anyway. Paradigms are shifting. And there are ways to earn money online to keep yourself from being a victim of the system and its economy. But I'm getting carried away now. LOL Be wise, be alert.
I slightly disagree. Yes, it is a tool and tools generally make things easier. In the case of this tool called Facebook it can make things easier to find cause there are so many things and people on facebook now but we still don't NEED this tool at all: Only if one is lazy or only used to find things on there you can not find it otherwise. This is my point, joining facebook is always a choice, you don't need it at all. If one cares about their privacy a lot there is really no need to go on facebook. People are kidding themselves because it has become the most convenient way to find things or they cave in because all their friends, collegues etc etc. are on there. If a person has a problem with one of those 2 issues they should simply avoid the whole thing. And yes, I think if you join facebook for all those practical stuff in the end it is easier to get sucked in the culture as well. I see it pretty much happening before my eyes.
Facebook is such a collection of depressed minds. I tried it for a while but was not impressed by the general mood ..God bless them
i still use facebook but its definately not like it used to be. at least it hasnt fully crapped out like myspace!
That's funny, because the posts I've found on Facebook have actually been helping me out of my depression, and developing an awareness of spiritual consciousness. You just weren't looking in the right places, brah. You attract what's in your mind.
I chose 'Not sure'. I do have an account and use it a lot tho. I like the principe but there is just so much shit on it and it seems to get more everyday.
I love Facebook, it makes me feel like I'm not so far away from my closest friends and family. I love being able to find out when a band I like will be playing here, without having to constantly check websites or subscribe to their email list. A lot of people share/post things that put a smile to my face, whether it's a song, a picture, a quote from a great book, a clip from a movie or just an interesting thought that sparks an interesting conversation or a hilarious conversations. Others post annoying shit all the time, it's easy to have their post not show up. I have my friends list divided so only certain people, see certain things. There's not much privacy on the internet in general and I find it funny when people say they don't use Facebook because of that, but spends many hours of the day online, posting on forums and who knows what else.
Something like hipforums is much more private then Facebook. But it is true if you really wanted you could trace an IP and find out where a user was posting from. But we are not listing all the personal details of our life.
Not everyone on Facebook posts all the personal details of their life. Some people don't even have their real name or the real place where they live. I'm not saying that's the majority, but it's really not required of you to post any personal details, at least not real ones. There's also plenty of people who post a lot of personal details here. It's not that difficult to track someone down on the internet, so I think what people need to be conscious of is that when you put something out there, video, picture, a post, it's out there, and anyone that knows how to look can access it. I've sometimes been amazed at what a friend from work has been able to find from people that start working there and he doesn't really know anything but their name and that the general area they live in, some of these people don't even have a Facebook.
I don't have a Twitter account, not because I find it incriminating, I just don't need something additional to Facebook to stay in touch with people. It also seems kinda annoying, more so than Facebook. I'm not sure how I could incriminate myself, besides my rare drug use a couple times a year, there's nothing that I could incriminate myself with.
