Hi there, Have just read the thread about the barefoot mountain hike and was just wondering what other sports you guys do barefoot? I've tried tennis (okay so long as I didn't have to run too quickly for a ball) and golf (at a pitch and putt course, but excellent fun and I'm sure I played better than last time I wore shoes!). Are there any other sports that are better shoeless? D.
Jogging, running track, running cross-country, soccer, nasketball. I've done all barefoot. Hugz, Bobby
That IS the very best, the very indescribably delicious best! I also do a lot of my mountain biking barefoot. This is a controversial one. Your feet are indeed close to danger the whole time. But so is the rest of your body, head included. One has to decide these things. Again, it feels so incredibly good to me that I'm willing to go for it.
Hobie Cat racing Ocean Kayaking Surfing Deep Sea Fishing Snorkeling Free Diving Beach Volleyball Mountain Bike Cruising I don't think that I can count SCUBA diving here, as fins may be considered shoes by some. I'd also distinguish between mountain bike cruising, which is slow riding on level surfaces from "real" mountain biking, where we'll reach up to 35mph on extremely rough roads. For that, I prefer to be firmly attached to the bike with an SPD/look system, albeit with sandals rather than enclosed shoes.
What did you have in mind? Do you think about at a "back yard level" or profesional, or something between? We humans are made for moving our body around barefoot, so that goes for sports too. I´m not a sport type of person, but at school we did PE barefoot. All kinds of sports indoors and outdoors with exceptions of winter sports like ice skating and skiing and things like that. You could also look at schools in New zealand, many kids do a lot of sports barefoot down there. In sports like baseball and stuff, with running , you have a barefoot benefit of keeping the grip to the ground and not slip that easy. In the opposite to what people might belive. In sports like soccer with kicking, you may not be as sucessful. In sports like climbing walls, you have got a big benefit of being barefoot. You may not be as successful being barefoot at the beginning. Your feet could get tired when using muscles that have had a lazy time in the past. But you will soon discover that you feet has become stronger. And many sport you will do much better barefoot.
I do wrestling and kickboxing. Part of the attraction is training at places where barefoot is required for these two sports. (Competition in both is just tight shorts - training is tight shorts and tshirt).
Running, kick boxing, wrestling are mine - all barefoot; and just started crossfit where barefoot is also OK.
Whoa barelondongeezer you have two posts in a row with like five years in between. That's intense. I've played soccer barefoot a couple of times. At times it didn't seem as practical as wearing shoes would be, especially for them really hard kicks, but the weather and the grass were way too nice for shoes. The only other thing I can think of that hasn't been mentioned yet is longboarding. Longboarding barefoot feels like magic, as long as you don't need to footbrake too hard. I usually just keep it to easy cruises, but I've seen videos of people doing insane trails barefoot. I almost hate longboarding with shoes after doing it barefoot. But I guess the same applies to a lot of activities.
