I want to start lucid dreaming.

If I have a really nice dream I usually remember it quite well.

I remember a couple dreams I had last year.

I know about the reality checks, and I do them a lot actually.

If I tell myself "Wake up, you're dreaming" and everything is normal then I'm awake.

    Question:
I get sleep paralysis a lot and I wonder if that's going to be an issue?

Also, it's my first time actually trying to lucid dream. Should I be prepared to fail at first?

be prepared to fail? why would you do that. It's every bit as placebo and confidence as it is technique.

Start a dream journal. When you wake up every morning write down any detail you can remember. As time goes along you will remember more and more and it will help with lucid dreaming.

Don't be upset when you can't do it for the first time, it takes practice. Sleep paralysis isn't an issue if you know how to handle it and not panic.

I heard that dairy products are supposed makes dream much more vivid.

The problem is that when I'm dreaming it's all fuzzy. Like an out of focus picture. It's really hard to concentrate on whether I'm dreaming or not because I can't get into it.

    Help. Yes?

This very morning during a very strange dream, I vividly recall knowing I was dreaming...and trying to change this dream, very unsuccessfully.

I even told some of the other people there in the dream with me - "I know I'm dreaming even though you and everything here looks real, I KNOW I'm dreaming, but I can't make anything change". They just looked at me and smiled...but it was like a "you're crazy and I sort of feel sorry for you" smile. I was telling this to 2 people.

Oh, and btw...my dreams have always been in as full color as life is...my dreams look just like everyday life.

I have also tried in vain before to alter or change a dream when I would realize I must be dreaming...in the dream.

My dreams are in color . Hear in the USA for electrical power , green is a ground , white a nutral , black , red , blue , ect. for hot . On a 24v therm red is common , green the fan , white for heat , yellow to cool , orange -blue a r.v. valve . Different things ,different color codes . You can get the idea of some of my dreams .

Ya if you haven't already heard of it try using the WILD techinique that works for a lot of people including me. Don't worry about the sleep paralysis I get that a lot to and it's actually not to bad to get used to it cuz UR probably gonna get it a lot more. Also if your willing to pay I would recommend getting the book Exploring the world of Lucid Dreaming by Dr. Stephen LaBerge. This is what works best for my friends and me. Good luck!

When I first started lucid dreaming the reality checks were one of the first steps I took as well. When I combined that with my dream journal I was able to see patterns in my dreams. Certain dream symbols kept reappearing for me and I was able to recognize them in my dream. When I saw that symbol - both in waking life and in my dream - I did a reality check. At first I was only able to remember to do it when I was awake. But as I kept doing it on a regular basis, I eventually remembered to do my reality check in my dream. Then my first lucid dream was basically a series of reality checks!

You can also try taking B-vitamins, choline bitartrate in particular. It helps your brain to have more activity, which leads to more vivid dreams and increases your likelihood of becoming lucid.

    Good luck!
