why do we see the "star" pattern when we look at a blank wall or sky?

The spirally shit? Related to the fibonacci sequence, I think they're so prominent in the psychedelic headspace because it's kinda like the "mean average" of infinite chaos.. the most efficient way of doing things because there are no loose ends, so our brains just kinda.. do it, cos doing anything else just seems silly.
Pretty much everything in life strives to be as close to that as possible, but of course it's never perfect because nothing is.. the psychedelic headspace is slightly more "streamlined" , for lack of a better word, so the patterns stick out a lot more. They are really everywhere though.

Fractals too, the universes way of neatly tucking itself into itself.

    That's my opinion anyway.

There's a lot of theories behind this, but instead of looking at it as "Wow, me and my friends BOTH saw this same pattern on acid, and its what is painted by alex grey as well!" I see it as "You, your friend, and Alex Grey, share the same neural circuitry, and you all see similar things when taking similar chemicals". Or maybe you saw that stuff because you saw a painting or pattern of it in the past and it came up during the trip.

On acid once I saw a fractal landscape of mountains with tentacles growing out of them, and in the center of each mountain, was Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons pointing at me saying HAW HAW :D is that because Nelson Muntz is a visual archetype in mankind's mind? Hardly, the Simpsons are extremely new in human history. However his character archetype is a classic, the joker. I took 2cb another time and vines started growing up from the ground in my room and up the walls and covering everything. Is this because homo sapiens lived in the jungles and I have primal genetic imagery in my mind? Or is it because my mind was replying some special effects from Jumanji? It's a very interesting question.

We get certain archetypal similarities during trips. How you experience the archetype tho is up to you and your experiences. Or your interpretation of the data being presented to you. Usually there is some kind of metaphor or meaning behind these visions.

thousands of books and hundreds of thousands of articles have been written . . . try a library or amazon.com :)

The two best psychedelic books I recommend are "Be Here Now" by Ram Dass and "The Joyous Cosmology" by Alan Watts. You can buy both for around 10$ online or less.

A few years ago someone posted an amazing scientific article on this topic and I wish I had archived it somewhere but I was in the middle of finals at school when it was posted, so it wasn't my top priority.

Anyways, from what I recall... The article suggested that some of the visuals hallucinogens elicit are common among people and the article went to break down these 'form constants' by percentages of occurences by various Hallucinogens. (LSD, Mushrooms, Mescaline, etc.)

Here is an article that touches on the same topic, however it's far less extensive in the information it provides...

    http://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/13/health/this-is-the-brain-on-hallucinogens.html

I feel as if form constants only tell half the story though, because I've had some visuals and hallucinations on psychedelics which seem much more personal in structure.

The human mind is very keen on noticing patterns. Visuals are just the tip of the.iceberg tho, on high doses of LSD you will often get cross sensory patterns synesthesia. Maybe acid justs turns up the functioning of the brain untill even the most insignificant patterns are visible.

I think u need to do more research
