I have a couple tattoos but no piercings. I'm curious as to what the motivation is for such things. My daughter has shown an interest in piercings (so far only her ears and belly button), but I'm a little concerned about it because she's so young and could be making choices that will last a lifetime. She's also talking about a tattoo when she's of age.
I think alot of people see themselves as some kind of canvas for art! They express themselves by having tats, etc. A lot of piercings, are IMO sexual in nature too (like tongue things, etc) for use in oral sex!
As parents we have to steer our kids towards their futures. I have 6 tattoo's and 11 piercings. I work for the state and meet with heads of departments and all that. None of my tattoo's and most of my piercings do not show. I take my earrings out when I am meeting presidents or dignitaries. Kids do not realize that what they do will impact them to some degree. Freedom is great, but if it costs you a job, that is going to suck. I am a firm believer in no body piercings until after 18 and no tattoo's until after 18. A tattoo in the wrong place can disqualify you for jobs... It is our job as parents to not say no, but to guide them to what will be best. I love my piercings. I would never encourage my kids to get them since it is a very personal decision. They have to make that choice on their own. Knowledge is best
I agree with irie, people really should consider that esp in areas which you just cant cover it up. you dont intend to work as some cashier at hot topic forever right...
