I just dont see the big deal about them. It seems to me that they are extremely overrated. Maybe that's because I dont like their music. But they are so huge......everybody seems to be into them. What do you like about them? Discuss your feelings about the band.............
there is a reason why people like them. I used to loathe the rolling stones when I was younger, probably because radio stations usually like to play the same songs over and over. once I got deeper into their catalogue, and I realized how great of a band they were, I never turned back. I think they are the premiere rock band ever put together. their best stuff is from 64-72 though.
The Stones Were @ the beginning using distortion and such and they have composed some really great songs. Listen to satisfaction or angie
Greatest band in the world! Still! Only the Beatles, Nirvana, CSNY, The Who came close to how good these guys are. You have to see 'em live to understand though. If you are under 30 chances are you've only heard the "hits" but listen to some of the other stuff. Jagger/Richards wrote some of the best love songs ever - "Lady Jane", "Angie",... and "Wild Horses" is one amazingly beautiful love-song ...
I think the stones are one of the most under-listened to bands around. People only know a few songs by them, and those songs aren't really all that typical of what the majority of their songs are.....bluesy rock. The radios mainly just play the pop songs, so that's what people think all their songs sound like.
They don't do much for me either. What ruined the Stones for me was seeing them live. I saw them on the Steel Wheels tour a kazillion years ago, and they put on a completely average, lackluster show. But I agree that if you dig deeper into their albums you'll find they've got stuff that's a lot better than what you hear on the radio. So for you hardcore Stones fans, if you had to recommend one album which would it be?
I kinda like Keith Richards, can't stand Mick Jagger. His attitude represents everything that is wrong with rock music. I understand their importance and influence in the early-mid sixties, and I would very much like to hear more from that era, but the alblums, songs, and even concert videos I've seen show an egotistical Jaggar, a prentencious set and pyrotechnics, and average quality music.
