So, you have been off walking barefoot, reveling it those blackened soles.
What do you do when you get home?

I have a shoes off house, and part of the reason is all the stuff I don't want in my living space. And I have bamboo (easy to mark) floors.

So I rinse off at the tap fairly well. I have an old scrub brush for nails out there.

    What about you?

My wife and I don't wear shoes at home either. I make sure I wash my feet if I was out barefooted because keeping the carpet clean in our apartment is a real bear.

yeah, at the very least a good brush off before going inside is often essential.

There is something about barefeet picking up every little stone and plenty of dust.

There is a big doormat at the house entrance and a second one at my flat door. Between there are three stories of stairs. Often the use of the mats and the walk is enough to get a sufficient degree of cleanliness. If I still feel too filthy, I have a basket with old hand towels in the toilet room next to my flat entrance. I wet one towel and use it to clean my feet, another I use to dry them. The towels go to the laundry basket afterwards. This is a service I offer to my guests too, if they come barefoot.

If I come home with very dirty feet, for example after a muddy hike, there is a tap and a drain outside the house next to the garages and i have a scrubbing brush placed there.

I have tile and parquet floor in my flat, both very easy to humid clean. No matter if it gets some footprints now and then.

I just came home from a day off work doing all these public authorities things, banking and errands. Though I went on bare paws in town since this morning, my feet were not so filthy that the towel version didn’t work. Of course I will care for a well washing before I go to bed when i take a shower later anyway. Btw my bank account advisor did take a look at my bare legs and feet and then she said “Sie haben’s gut!” (“You are better off!”) and smiled.

Pixy, that mat sounds like the typical mat in the US.
My home is shoes off because the mat doesn't really remove any real amount of dirt.

My home is my sanctuary and the physical and metaphysical dirt of the outside world isn't welcome in my sanctuary.

Manu, I don't have carpets. They are dirt traps.

(I sound OCD, here, but I'm not.)

my yard is paved with concrete tiles covered in tiny round red and grey pebbles. to scrub my feet i just shuffle my soles while under the tap; running water and the coarse pavement do the cleaning. plus, there's always a plastic brush at hand .
