Yes, he's good with tech stuff. Winning a spelling bee is neat, but being able to build things that work is very important. No insult intended.

I am not insulated . On making this a national law . I think its best to leave this up to each state . Hear in AZ this has been a problem for some time .
On Katrina and NO ,LA in 2005 I think a lot was misshandled all the way around . People could not take there pets , they were worried about looters , some were old and too feeble to leave . I dont think fining a person for these reasons would be fair . The Arizona law only applies to some one driving into flooded areas . To my knowledge they dont charge some one that goes hiking when its 115 f and colapses from the heat on the side of a mountain , and this does happen .

Those are the contention points I was referring to where a person didn't cause the mishap. But when I referred to the hiker who got billed, I mentioned that he went off the path deliberately and needlessly.

The problems with billing people for the rescue is that there are those gray areas where an ordinary person may not have been intentionally doing something to cause a mishap but he may think that he will be perceived as doing so by the authorities and therefore might not call for help in fear of getting billed for the rescue.

There is kind of a gray area of what is rite and fair , what is an accdent and what was a stupid act. People will float down the salt river on an inner tube http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_River_(Arizona) many people like to drink beer when "tubeing " but you cant swim very good after a few cans of beer a few people will dround , and divers need to recover there body . I dont think it is fair to charge a family that has just lost a loved one .

The rescue people are put at risk needlessly when someone acts silly.

The Balloon Boy incident in Colorado is an example of silly behavior to gain publicity that put others at risk. It cost something like $45,000 for the search and rescue which involved national guard helicopters. The father plea bargained and had to pay for the cost as part of his criminal sentence. The father is fortunate a helicopter didn't crash and that no one was injured or killed.

You don't have to be all that stupid to get caught in a flash flood during monsoon season in southern AZ (raises hand) ... just being unaware can get you killed.

It happens every year, but yeah mostly people that try to drive through the water.
Responders gotta risk their shit saving some of these dumbasses, they should be sent a bill! Same with the DS's that ski out of bounds and get hurt, mountain climbers that have to be rescued by helicopter, sailboat rescue, etc

I said it was known as the stupid motoriest law . All it takes is a mom wanting to get home to feed the kids taking the normal way home . She does not know that that low area in the road she goes down is part of a wash and is now running with water . In these flash floods the water can come up fast , some times faster than the washes can get barracaded off .
