the classic rock station here sucks. I don't really understand it - I know their library is huge because they occasionally do a classic rock a - z thing where they play a band by every letter, and sometimes they play some pretty good, more obscure shit. The majority of the time they play a lot of Kansas, Boston, Journey, stuff like that.

Jazz tends to be my first choice when cruising while listening to music--Latin Jazz is a favourite. Otherwise, I have rather eclectic tastes, but it usually depends on what I'm in the mood for. =)

Never never listen to the radio either. Even the stations that play music in the direction I like play the same tunes over and over again. About the car radio: replace it for one with a usb entry. It's so handy you never play a cd in your car again.

I often listen to the radio while driving to and from work, and occasionally listen to a CD (of the entire 5 burned albums I have, which were gifts to begin with) because in the new vehicle I don't have the USB option. In the morning I listen to the program for Preston and Steve, who have replaced Opie and Anthony on Philadelphia's 93.3 which is an otherwise 90's - 00's rock station. Preston and Steve are actually funny but they have a few other regulars who make it critically obvious that they are meant to 'fill out' the atmosphere and add (unnecessary) voices to make the show more appealing to larger numbers of people; the girl in particular is obscenely stupid and her voice irritates me (what Opie an Anthony would have referred to as 'a hole', lol). I catch around 25 minutes of their show while driving Sophia to school and then on to my job. When I'm driving home or if I'm out driving past midnight I always put on the Princeton college radio station which thankfully reaches Philadelphia, which is 103.3. This station is quite honestly a Godsend, there truly is no other free station that offers such insane music so often; there is a show on Tuesdays which used to be on at 18:00 and now got moved to something like 14:00, an hour long and once a month it's two hours long, it's called Motorfunker Radio and hosted by two dudes who obsess over the *exact* obscure subgenre of music as I do - Space Disco and all things German / Italo 1977 - 1984 electronic. They even turned me on to the Creme label and to the artist Rude 66 by way of his song The Thousand Year Storm which is an essential electro masterpiece featuring an English translation speaking my most favorite verse from the near-epic poem "A Celebration of Peace" by the schizophrenic late 18th CE German poet Hölderlin, who was responsible for inspiring Hegel's famous dialectics by introducing him to Heraclitus' union of opposites.

They have a massive variety of dj's and general genre formats but primarily what I hear in the morning tends to be various classical / baroque / romantic, sometimes even Gregorian and mid-day tends to be modern indie rock and the like; later on it's Golden Age hip-hop mixed with underground contemporary hip-hop and late in the evenings (and sometimes all night / early morning depending on the day) it's often electronic dance music of infinite variety. After midnight they have ambient and noise shows and many times I've turned it on having to run out somewhere at 01:00 on a Friday to hear some of my absolute favorite artists, Boredoms, Lightning Bolt being among them, and just last week I turned it on to hear my FAVORITE track from Brian Eno's Apollo album.

Once, when I was driving to my monthly doctor appointment, which is an hour each way, they played the entire first Black Dice album Beaches and Canyons, of which all but one song exceeds 10 minutes and the last two songs are over 15 minutes each. That was a fucking *AWESOME* ride!!

In my opinion, Black Dice's first album was by far their very best, and the closing track "Big Drop" is their best song for me. If anyone actually listens to this and makes it anywhere, wait until about 9 minutes in, when he starts singing with the drums, lol. Classic!
