A message to young hippie girls from an elder hippie dude- My life bearing goddess sisters, I am just a humble pilgrim stumbling through life and attempting not to generate negative karma, I am only special in the sense that all people are special. But I have had the good fortune and opportunity to have had many life experiences, and I consider myself an elder in our hippie culture, one of many. But not enough elders are doing their job. Not like when I was a hippie bean sprout in the 60's. Many Rainbow gatherings, throwing huge rallies and concerts, working with volunteer organizations for years, being a father of 3 children I delivered and a grandad (of 4 months) has exposed me to a lot of circumstances where I have witnessed precious young hippie sisters get abused, exploited, disrespected, used and even raped. In the hippie environment, there is a lot of openness and trust. The predatory hunter guy knows this and uses it. I offer you my respect, my brotherly and fatherly love, and a few words, hopefully of wisdom, because you are truly sacred. You have chosen the path of the gentle, the humble, the caring, the stony...the hippie. There is nothing more beautiful nor radiant than a hippie goddess. The personification of nurturing, as a bearer of life you possess such great power, the ability to reach through a hole in the membrane of the Universe and pull a fresh spirit into this world. Treat your body with respect, it is a life machine, and a glorious temple, one that drives your hippie brothers (and some sisters) wild with longing at times. My counsel, and heart-song humbly offered as a gift from your brother Templedragon Vivian: 1. Be aware and wary of creepy older dudes who come on very strong, profess their greatness as they exalt themselves, or gush relentlessly over your sexual attractiveness. There has always been, within the hippie culture (in every culture), a certain breed of men who unfortunately prey on young women, especially pretty and liberated looking ones. These guys may be very good looking, they may seem so nice and trustworthy upon appearance. Don't be paranoid, or afraid of men, but be informed and careful and observant. We all know what these kind of predators want. Hopefully it is only sex, and not violence. Either way, trust your instinct. Do not let yourself get left alone in an isolated location with a guy who has shown warning signs or red flags. Of course, you may find him attractive and want to do the nasty with him, perhaps you are feeling randy, or he has gotten you stoned or dunk or more. Don't get carried away and starry eyed just because of the length of some guy's gorgeous hair, or his self professed spiritual advancement (the Guru factor, or the "Teacher" who looks into your soul and praises you and strokes your ego), or great poetry or whatnot. It will be your decision, and maybe you will actually want to party (or even sleep) with a guy much older than you. It is not immoral, as long as you are legal, but it can be creepy and shallow, superficial if he is acting lecherous, disrespectful or insulting, rude and controlling. Be careful. Ultimately your actions are your decisions, so you must remember to make wise choices, and high standard when it comes to sexual activity are a good thing in today's world. 2. If you do have sex...always use protection. There are scores of young unmarried mothers, whose children will grow up without a dad or a nuclear family. That is not always a bad thing, but you should be responsible and avoid that situation of you can. If you can't and it happens, don't be ashamed, be proud of your family and do your best to raise a sane and healthy kid. But you don't want to get pregnant b4 you are ready, or catch a disease ever. I used to sometimes see young hippie girls in dead lot, tripping, all filthy, a beer in one hand and a filthy baby slung over their hip. I wanted to say "sister, get off of tour, de-lice your hair and go take care of your baby". There is a time and place for everything. You can have children later, when you have got a power center (home), and resources to provide for your child and yourself. Welfare is a lousy way to raise a family, and feeds a stereotype we hippies have been fighting for years. 3. Never forget how important being a hippie is, and always be proud, and remember you are an ambassador to the rest of the world. Other hippies will be judged partially by your actions and behavior. If we are responsible, pleasant, kind and truthful, other will see the goodness of the hippie path, and they will want to evolve too. We are so lucky to have this now, and this here. We are blessed to have been exposed to the alternative culture. Rise to the morning and lay down in the evening with an awareness of the Spirit. You are never, ever, truly alone. Even the rocks have a consciousness. The wind, everything is living. Everything is humming with the magnificence of creation, and your juice as a human being is the highest essence, and the tree beings, and the animal beings, groove on our juice as long as we are not harming them. Humans are guardians of creation, whether we know and are doing our job or not, that is our purpose (among other things). These things I know to be true, to me at least. My advice could possibly not apply to you, but it does to most. I offer it in love, devotion and surrender. I bathe in your beauty, am nurtured by your love, relish your friendship, and honor your spirit power and your birth power. Walk softly, say only that which you truly mean and pick your words carefully, for speech matters. Honesty is incredibly liberating, as long as it is not hurtful. Truth will not let you down. Love is the highest aspiration in the Universe. Cigarettes cause damage, especially if you start smoking young. Pot is not harmless, and you can fuck up with it. It is powerful medicine, and should be respected as such. Smoke it AFTER you have done your homework, put on that tire on your car, or not at all if you are doing something dangerous, like driving a baby in your car down a twisting steep road you are not familiar with. That is all for now. I love you, and your living light. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawww. Vivian my love for you is infinite. Your words are powerful, honest, and stem from love. I have encountered some of these men you warn of and have seen many a young girl taken advantage of. I met this one old rasta musician dude and nm. I was once and prolly am still a lil too naive for my on good. I think though, that if you just shine enough light on anybody it is enough to soften them and get them to rethink their actions. I've been on my own since I was 16 and have seen alot of predators after boys and girls alike. I don't really understand what makes people like that. Everybody has choice right? I guess its just important for everybody to trust their gut, and their heart. Removing that pesky victim concsioussness helps alot too. Blessings Templedragon.
Gee, thanks Darlin', you have made my day! Yeh mon, I lust in my heart as strongly as anyone in the face of beauty, but we must all use moral and ethical judgement when we consider acting on our feelings. More importantly we must be responsible about how we impact another person. Sexual attraction is a mighty strong drug. It's got the best of me many times, but I have grown stronger (and uglier) in my old age, he he. Many blessings to you Sugarplum. V-
i know exactly waht you are talking about. this has somewhat happened to me before. not with people who were too older than me, but they knew i trusted people and was open and they used me.
TempleDragon, What inspired you to start such an interesting thread? Psycho-sexual energy is always an interesting topic to me. Especially since we repress our sexual energy in order to redirect it to create Civilization. To bad we didn't get a chance to hang-out at the last Gathering. Did you make it to the Gathering this year in California. By the way, I'm across the Sound just south of Port Townsend.
please post this in womens issues or relationships and DEF in the rainbow forum! May I format this and print it to spread at shows?
Copywrong 2004 All Rights Reversed! u betcha, darlin'. do with it what ya want, and receive a house call from the Good Karma Doctor! All I ask is you credit it to the Seattle Peace Heathens (http://www.seattlecrisis.org) Pray for peace, Viv-
NAMASTE I have been called a prud at many a gathering for not wanting to hit on every sistah that comes my way.My body is a temple as all of ares is and elder brothers all over need to relearn this great leason. Thanks brother for posting this.i have posted this same topic a few times and i think it should be reposted many more. a side note, the women going though the hormone madness induced chasing after young boys should also be addressed. I saw this happen on circuit with several women. Some have good relationships out of it, and some simply have what ius to them good memories. Some have children who will never know their full family (let's take missing /pushed away dad out of the equation...these kids also lose aunties, uncles and grandparents) once you are both legal, not many protections exist for the feeble from youth or the feeble from age. Common sense has to jump in, and we all know that jumps out the bedroom window. ALL relationships, one-night or one-life long, should be started with something beyond selfish need. sure there is the itch, but shouldn't the partner's itch be considered? is the partner funny? serious? withdrawn, outgoing? smart or dumb as a stump? you should know this (along with names). personally, dumb as a stump was my exit cue. if your partber is a friend of at least a few months' duration, you'll know what you need to for the moment, but discover that person. that makes the fling more than a stand. even for a night. Leave sweet memories. enough for now...
Temple Dragon, I am in awe and at an absolute loss for words... This is what I want to see in EVERYONE. *sigh* You never said it better. It PAINS me to see that vile sort of behavior...it makes my soul cry to see babies on tour and their mother's wasted... Such a terrible view one gives to other people not of our kynd. THANKYOU SO MUCH for writing this. May I also copy your words and pass it along to sisters AND brothers at shows? will give credit to seattle crisis of course. Peace
Thank you my brother. I felt that I was more on guard at my first gathering than enjoying myself. This happily turned out to be a bunch of crap (my part) and I enjoyed myself wasn't bothered by anyone. Like most independant women, I carry myself well, look folks in the eye and have an air of authority most unnecessary. I couldn't agree with your advice for the more free-er sisters out there. I find their trust freeing, a balm to a bruised soul not to be taken advantage of at all. Others think this not. Take care my sisters, be free; be careful. urby
