Hundreds poisoned by lead in Nigerian gold mining operation. Some beyond repair. Why did I suspect that this would turn out to be by an american company as soon as I read it? [IMG] It's on Yahoo.

Shell is causing a mess in Nigeria as well... Polluting unbelievable amounts of land because of neglected oilpipes. It's outrageous how those people there have to suffer for first world company's easy profits.

Private companies just need to be more respectful and less neglectful when they're in a foreign country to do business.

Lack of accountability for their actions, all that seems to matter anymore is the almighty dollar. :(

I am glad you are actually researching it, my statement in general is still true but it's good to know the particulars of the situation.

If anyone care's about Nigeria's ecological future, you can't miss this http://hbo.vice.com/episode-nine/ep-9-seg-2 on Nigeria's "oil pirates". There is so much pilfered oil spiling into that eco system that IMO it threatens the world and not just Nigerians. Eco systems are like teeth in a head. Take one out and the others start following.

Terra Graphics International, out of Moscow, Idaho. 1000 children are affected, with many being blind, some made invalid and an unknown number that will have extreme difficulty with school, says Doctors Without Borders.

the real company that people should be mad at is the Nigerian government who waited 2 years before providing the proper funding to get Terragraphic org and doctors without borders in there to help

Sooooooooo---I take it back in this case. It's evidently the government of Nigeria or whomever owns the mine that was/is responsible. I'll be kneeing myself in the crotch now!

they were illegally mining...it was villagers and gypsy types

    not a company

not an actual "mine"..just an area with some gold and some people who wanted to try and make some money
