I can appreciate both themes :2thumbsup: Vikinglir veldi is one of my favourites, especially the rerelease that also has the songs of Hordanes land on them in better quality!
Have to say, after getting used to the back up vocals on "Hel", there's not one bad track on Deceiver of the Gods. ^.^
I'll check that one out some time soon. I think I have more than one Amon Amarth album to check up on They're always good live but not one of my favourites to listen at home.
Most black metal is shit. For viking metal, stick to early Enslaved and Unleashed. Maybe Himinbjorg and Bathory too.
Everyone says enslaved is good but I bought Vertabrae once and gave up after the second song. It sucked ass, just as bad Opeth. It didn't even sound like metal, just crappy prog that I was disappointed with.
Enslaved has changed a lot musically over the years. You can't say they sound like this or that because it can differ a lot per album. Their later stuff often still sounds like metal but yeah it's kind of progressive. I don't listen to those albums neither. They are certainly not black or viking metal anymore... but not bad. I just don't really dig progressive rock and metal myself. Have you listened to those Enslaved tracks in this thread??
These are absolute legend and I get lost in them every time. Like some of the older Bathory works as well.
Nordland 1 & 2 were better than Hammerheart imo. Shame he died before he could do any more, because everything else after Twilight of the Gods was shit.

Wow, I rarely hear someone saying that (except me )! Yes, it is the best they did and one of the best in the genre overall imho! A true highlight :cheers2:
