I couldn't say Captain Kirk because there are new movies now with a new Kirk.

Both of these movies are very good. But there is no replacing the Shatner.

Depending on which way our civilization takes us. If we break down to nothing, as we tend to do, then like history before us, only a very tiny fraction will be remembered. Those that changed the world the most. If we persevere with our current societies though, we may all be easily looked up on whatever descendant of the internet exists in 1000 years.

Specifically, though, i'll be remembered as long as my company gets nonprofit status, and incorporates a pharmaceutical branch to go along with the agricultural branch. Free food and medicine for all! A whole new economy driven by the pursuit of knowledge, not the almighty dollar! Too bad the higher ups will probably get rid of me before i accomplish this.... lol

    Jobs?? Seriously?

Jobs will be forgotten in 100 years let alone 1000. His contribution to technology was being the snake oil salesmen that convinced an entire generation that they were worthless unless they owned one of Apple's extortionately priced, technologically weak, trendy fad gadgets.

It's amazing that Jobs has an almost cult like following, the man was an asshole and not that knowledgeable when it came to the technology.
He was just a good salesman.

If the Gates continue on their current course, they will most likely be remembered for their altruistic and humanitarian efforts as well as Microsoft.

So I think Bill Gates for sure, Obama and a few others in the political spotlight right now, depending on what happens in the next couple of years. If major conflict erupts from what is going on now, yes, if not, who knows.

I seriously doubt that any sports figures will still be remembered.
They just aren't that important and have never historically been held in high esteem until within the last century.
If the world's economy continues on a downward spiral, we may see the "end" of organized sports a lot sooner than 1000 years.
Organized sports have always been a luxury of wealthy civilizations who can afford to devout time to such unproductive endeavors.

Unfortunately the people most likely to be remembered in 1000 years will be the ones who create the most destruction and harm. :(

That you are actually concerned makes me think 'Jobs' will be remembered...

I hope everyone alive today will be forgotten and that no one alive in one thousand years will be forgotten.

I hope in one thousand years celebrity and villainy will be forgotten.

I hope in one thousand years no one will be special but everyone will be precious.

after some more thought i think that if something happens to all our records on tape and books then the only ones remembered will be the people who are immediately associated with something when you hear their name. a smart person is the first thing you think about a person if they are called Einstein. as well as peaceful when you hear Gandhi. but i cant think of anyone that fits that description that is alive at the moment. anyone else will just be known in passing like you might hear that king George the first was the ruler when so and so event happened. the same might happen a thousand years from now but nobody will care much more about the lives of those rulers than the decisions they made about the event being discussed.
and if you really think that events of our time wont be discussed in the future well we often talk about stuff that happened over 2000 years ago. i dont think that part of humanity will change.

none of them will be remembered by more then a small minority of those fascinated by history.

the invention of agriculture, the price paid by the use of nuclear weaponry, and the day people stop dying of starvation and the diseases that will have reduced human population to a tiny fraction of what it is now, and, hopefully, that it was the needlessly excessive use of combustion, to generate power and propel transportation, that led to the great population implosion that will likely have happened by then.

these are the THINGS that are far more likely to be remembered, and hopefully so, then WHO anyone was or what they did.

Im not an apple fan in the least and just got my first 'ipod' free from my sister. IMO its over priced junk with too much hype. They sell you the I5 phone today as the 'newest' and it was outdated a month ago and the I6 is already in the hands of tuners and testers.
But he helped push the technology so you never know.
