I saw them live once, with Powderfinger! That was the best concert, two great bands in one night...

And matey, don't worry, not everyone digs the same music, that's one of the things that makes the world so beautiful and diverse! :)

john butler is bloody awesome...and what i like is that he sends a good msg to all the bogans out there... he teaches the "norms" and speaks up for the people who hate the way it's run.

australia's a pretty damn good country to live in really...geographically not as fascinating as america...but we do have great beaches, and it is funt o piss each other off..

LOL, I enjoy your contributions RetroGroove_Grrl!

    Hello there,
Just found these forums a few days ago, it piqued my interest and now it got me contributing.
In comparison to most humans on the planet the average Aussie enjoys vast material wealth, but with an epidemic of obesity and depression, the reality is that everything is not as healthy as appears. Many are hoping technology and business will see us through current problems, despite the fact that many of these problems directly relate to previous abuse of resources by business using some technologies.
With summer coming on and little material concerns for most Australians, aside from sport, the majority are concerned about getting to the beach or pool not pondering the vast and complex problems in the rest of the world.
As the Chinese story suggested living in interesting times can be a curse, and I think many people feel the problems in the world (mostly outside Australia) are far bigger than is worth considering, so why bother.
Even though we might be a long way from the rest of the world, for all the modern conveniences we enjoy we need the rest of the world, but many don't want to consider this I think.
I think Australia is both great and has lots of problems, like any human culture. I don't see a problem with this but feel there is an immaturity in public discussion in Australia where many love talking up the positives but can't even handle hearing about some of the true but less wonderful things.

I've lived in the northern rivers (Nimbin, Byron) region for more than ten years and many locals I think would say that places like Byron have been loved to death. It is interesting to see what others think about this area, it has been the home to many experiemnts in different living over the years, some with more problems than others.
The natural beauty of the place remains only because of protestors stopping logging and changing the way people used the land.
The seachange thing, with heaps of people moving to the coast and the increase in property prices and the cost of living has caused changes here, like a lot of places.
Nimbin remains a "hippy" town of sorts even with the current more conservative times, not without its problems, but there is no other place like it.

As I'm registered I might be popping back in

    cya all
