So what do people here do for work?? Ive been out of work for 8 months and for the life of me i cant figure out what i want to do with myself. In the eyes of an employer id probably be classed as 'lazy' but personally i just dont see the point in work, especially earning money for other people. But sitting on my arse for 8months has finally caught up with me so i now have to get back to work and the "norm" per say. So im just intrigued to see what people do, and any ideas that could get me back to the "norm" Red
Doesn't really sound like you want to get back to the "norm"! If working for other people and money doesn't interest you why not live off the land? Sell all your worldly possessions, get yourself a sleeping bag and some sort of survival kit, head to the woods or the seaside. Though I guess it would be foolhardy to go for something that radical without the know how. I do warehousing/logistics type graft and I quite enjoy it. I'm a little bit OCD so the fact that things have to be accurate and precise rather suits me. And I actually get a little kick when everything goes smoothly and to plan! So I guess looking for work in a field you have a natural ability for would be a start. Take it from there. I've been working warehouse gigs for close to 10 years now, four or five different places. But just last month I landed the same job but this time it's for a fair trade charity as opposed to a national supermarket. So I can finally tick the ethics box too! But like I say, took 10 years... Gotta start somewhere, man
I run a charity shop and have done for the last 7 years. i love my job, i meet interesting poeple i get alot of itneresting things donated and the profit we make goes into halping other people, wich i can see first hand as its a local charity. Everyone has a differant calling in life
Its something Ive considered, living off the land, but like you say without the know how, especially the fact i would be alone, there is a massive chance it would backfire. I was brought up a city lad, so have limited knowledge of survival in the wilderness, but living the hectic brainwashed city life isnt in me neither. I worked in the restaurant business for 6years, within that time progressing to management, living the 'good life' so to say, being taught money and power is everything. Its what i always wanted to do, but after doing it i realized its just not the type of person i am or want to be. Treating other people like dirt just so i can get by isnt right. So the norm (work, produce, consume) isnt for me. But now i feel like a school leaver searching for that calling in life.. which is just sending my head into spirals. Its a complicated old world we live in.
I am also unemployed and have been for some time, so I can totally relate to not being that keen to return to it. I also have no interest in helping the company make a profit, especially by screwing over their customers. I've been there and done that, and feel empty from it. I laugh bitterly when I see a job advertised saying you must be 'motivated by money'. That's so not me. I couldn't care less. Job satisfaction is so much more important to me, and spending time at home living my own life, feels so much more important than giving my time to some company I couldn't care less about. My advice? Maybe look for things that interest you, do you have any hobbies or interests that you might be able to turn into a career or work? Is there a particular cause or charity you might want to help? Perhaps getting a job there might help, or even volunteering in a place like that might help? Be it a charity shop or a farm, follow what interests you. And if you really want to try living off the land, try learning about bushcraft and wild foraging. A 'normal' job might be the way to fund a course learning how to live off the land, and you might be able to reach your dreams that way. As bokonon says, it took him 10 years, but he got there in the end. Good Luck, and I hope you find what you're looking for. (Even if you're not entirely sure what that is yet).
hi I'm London now but i'm from japan! i want live in land with 1 bag and live in nature. but looking for place, commune, ppl.let's me know if u know some...
I don't think people should do work because it's what society wants and we can do more help by sitting in our gardens or looking after the planets animals in our homes
I currently guide east europeans into doing my work. Now I can help saving the animals all day by sitting in my garden protesting against the man.
