that's awesome, AT. i didn't know you were into them. i'm surprised you guys haven't seen me mention this band before on the forums. but i probably only do in the psychedelic forums, so you probably wouldn't have seen it. i made my mind up convinced my brain i lied on accident trying to explain but all the things that i was told and the people that told me how could i not believe the bad things that everyone else sees? ~the first song
What was the set list like? I was really hoping they'd play the weather at the show I went to, but they didn't.
they played Stab like 2nd. that was awesome and they played a lot of good stuff, my memory is kinda hazy right now though. but i was just reading about the show at Irving Plaza...man i'm jealous! they got Get a Life, In the morning, Goin against your mind, Car....they didn't play any of that here. some off the top of my head they played: You were right carry the zero they got away big dipper don't fear the reaper cover yeah...i'm hoping someone documents this better than i did
i'll try to get the whole set up here eventually: Traces Stab Kicked it in the Sun! Strange The Plan Liar You were right carry the zero they got away (encore) don't fear the reaper cover Big Dipper
Nice! They played that cover to don't fear the reaper also. I thought it was good but wondering why they did any covers? Also a bad religion song, fuck what was it.. Untrustable Goin against your mind Carry the Zero Liar Damn, I'm having a hard time remembering. I mean I was drunk and on boomers but still
they are kinda known for doing cool covers right? they've been doing this Don't fear the reaper one, and a Smith's cover, 'how soon is now' on this tour. i wish they woulda played that instead. they've covered I try by macy gray. and of course the infamous Cortez the killer i think virginia reel around the fountain is a cover - though it's by the halo benders, another band that doug was in one of the guys from slam dunk came out for don't fear the reaper, and pretended to play along on the guitar. he was like dancing back to back and doing funny stuff with the bass player. and they had a guy hammering on the cowbell haha. how fucking terrible were those opening bands? i thought i could hear some slightly good guitar riffs by the warm hair, when the dude would shut up long enough. but then again, maybe the acid was just starting to kick in? then built to spill took the stage and we knew what real good music sounded like. Traces is a good one to start with. one of my favorite actually. "i know it's hard sometimes for you to tell where you end and where the world begins" (oh man that was so damn good last night!) they opened with that at both shows that i've seen. and they played stab both times which might be my favorite song if i had to pick one. i dunno though
and the show you went to was Oct 25th? at jackson beach? it's one of the only ones not on this site http://www.setlist.fm/setlists/built-to-spill-73d6ae4d.html i'm hoping mine gets put up there. uploaded to youtube would be golden! do you remember what they opened with? this is a good one. i wish they would have played ONE song from their first album. such as first song, get a life, revolution, built to spill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtYPy6ti-Fs"]Built To Spill - The First Song - Philadelphia, PA - 11/2/2013 - YouTube
Hahaha you are super stoked just like I was the day after. Man, I don't even know what they opened with. At that point I was kind of just in awe to actually see them and felt like I was peaking. I think it was Liar but I'm not 100% on that. Yeah I saw them in Jacksonville Beach. Have the ticket stub up on my fridge still haha. About the covers, I didn't know that and this was my first time seeing them live so I was kind of surprised. They did such a good job with don't fear the reaper though, it was like being back in the day or something. And we walked in with about 10 min left on the 2nd opening bands set, I think slam dunk? They were kind of rockabilly and had the female bassist, and they were doing crazy shit with the mics. I kind of liked them. They would've gotten annoying fast but had a good sound :2thumbsup: Then the singer was standing with us for most of built to spill's set
yeah that was slam dunk. i didnt like them much. they played 1st last night though. then The warm hair.
Now I'm really bothered that I can't even remember what they opened with. I wonder if it is on youtube
