So today one of my buddies was telling me how he was tripping on LSD and saw ancient Egyptian writing on the wall, so i told him to draw some of it to show me what it looked like, because i have seen something pretty similar to what he was describing. He draws some things on his paper that look like heiroglyphics or something, so i look up on google ancient egyptian writing. And literally the ones that he drew on the paper matched up to some of the ones in the picture. There was about 50 in the picture and he drew 5 and all 5 were in the picture... pretty weird. I have also seen visuals of ancient writings and ive heard of other people that have too.

Does anyone know why this occurs? How does our brain generate things that are so intricate and precise when we've never seen them before?

I see more ancient type patterns and structures with mescaline and sometimes DMT so I'll try to go from there. Those psychedelics have been used for millenia and to piggyback on a Terrence Mckenna type theory, the ancients likely used artwork and even perhaps emulated physical structures as a way to communicate, worship, and acknowlege their hallucinogenic, sacramental experiences after ingesting these plants.

In ancient Egypt, there is a mystery sacramental drink referred to as 'Soma' which is thought to have been a powerful, highly mind altering concotion. The leading theory of it's primary psychoactive properties at this point is thought to be Amanita Muscaria Mushrooms I believe, however there are some who posit that perhaps lysergic acid derivatives could have been the primary psycoactive constinuent in the drink. If the latter is the case, then perhaps it would follow much the same as with the cultures representation of DMT and Mescaline containing plants. Perhaps some Egyptian hieroglyphics/art were borne out of representing experiences with Soma.

The brain is thought to generate visuals when ingesting psychedelics from the drugs interacting with some Sertonergic receptor sites, most notably 5ht2a. This is likely an oversimplification to the complexity and scope of the visual process elicited while on psychedelics, as many report personally tailored experiences, however there is some overlap in thematic visual content on psychedelics. I've heard the description of neural communcation getting 'mixed up' which may further explain some of the affects.

That can be scinetific explanation of the question, however there is always the other explanation, from the spiritual side. I personaly think that we as beeings are part of the much bigger picture, that our soul is who we truly are, and that this physical plane and body is just the phase of our ethernal existance, the vehicles that we drive in some kind of simulation. I think that those things that we all see under the influence of psychedelic drugs are part of the different dimension, part of the existance on another plane, maybe even code that defines who we really are. Under the influence of psychedelic drugs we tend to leave the body and become pure energy, to exist bodyless uder the full blown effect of drugs. When the dose does not take us on fully blown bodyless expirience, we tend to exist in both planes, to overlap the current reality with the one we went back. Its like the drugs are stopping the simulation and return us back where we came from, or where we go when we sleep, die and where we are born from. I refuse to believe that some receptors in brain are making us see exactly same signs, patterns, colours and so on that have been seen for ceturies by enlighten people. Its more like you live somwhere far from home and somebody brings you your favourite food from home. Once you expirience fully blown bodyless existance, its hard to go back to our 3D world with poor science and time limits. If you never expirienced fully blown bodyless existance, what can I say, up your dose :)
