I practise yoga and meditation most days, and I've noticed that when I get into a relaxed state where all my muscles, bones and joints are relaxed and I'm focusing on breathing that I can feel internal pain on the left side of my chest and under that armpit. This happens even if I haven't put strain on my body etc.

It doesn't particularly hurt and only happens during yoge or meditation, its always in the same place.
Any know what it could be?

it's probably your body telling you where the problem is, and too work on that area. I do the same thing except I'll "smoke" as well, smoking helps relax everything and makes problem areas easier to find. The areas the feel uncomfortable I'll work on by massaging, stretching, walking, etc. Afterward those areas feel stronger and more stable.

Do you think the problem could be around my heart then?

I wonder whether its emotional pain rather than a physical problem.

It could also be that your body is in a sense of awareness and you're finally able to pin point the place that your pain is coming from. Tight chest muscles can be caused by lack of stretching or things called "trigger points" Before you go to an MD, see a massage therapist and ask them to take a look and see if it's muscular.
It being in armpit area could mean a few muscles.. most likely pec minor or subscapularis which is a deep muscle on the shoulder blade. You mention a pain near your ribs and chest which could also mean serratus anterior. If you look up the pain patterns of trigger points in these muscles you can better ease your mind.

I know these are technical terms but I'm just trying to get you to not be afraid of your body and a heart problem should be the last thing on your mind. I'm not a doctor, just a massage therapist. :)

It could be nothing, but best to see a doctor if it causes a lot of discomfort.

It could also be that your diaphragm muscle is overworked / stressed / strained. This can happen with breathing exercises if you over do it. It happened to me a week or so ago.
