Apologies if/when I ever annoy or upset anyone

I don't think you annoy people for the reasons that you think you annoy people.

Calm, peaceful, cool, people who occasionally get impassioned about controversial subjects don't annoy most people.

 

Why must a significant percentage of people talk in this manner, like passive aggressive or backhanded or whatever?

Why not just say what you mean? Just be honest and positive and true... is that so much to ask from some people? Just being constructive as opposed to backhanded and belittling?

I suppose this is a problem with free-for-all forums.

It does bug me though, because I'm just not like that. I am deeply compassionate and understanding and I want to help others and understand them, not belittle them. So I feel frustrated by people who do it.

It hurts me but it also deeply disappoints me.

 

My comment was as honest as it gets. It's not passive aggressive or belittling at all. If you think that you are annoying people for the wrong reasons, the ways that you actually annoy people will keep happening.

It has never occurred to me to find you annoying, and I haven't seen too many posts that look like you are annoying others. It just appears as healthy debate. So calm down.

 

You annoy people because it seems like your posts are intended to start arguments between people, but you yourself don't willingly contribute anything to the discussion (eg. your holocaust thread).

Maybe I misread. I've just dealt with a lot of people recently who I feel are unreasonable and unfair, and who do mask what they're really saying. Sorry if I unfairly grouped you with them and then made assumptions based on that.

But I've already said that that is not why I start discussions like that.

Surely you have to sometimes believe what I say. Or I may as well say "I don't like you because you're a unicorn" and then not believe you when you say that you are not a unicorn!

 

I agree with eggsprog. You annoy me because you come across as a shit stirrer and you press issues that you've taken little time to research. It's obvious to me that you're not very cultured because with that privilege comes certain social graces that you don't exhibit. Also individuality is super cool but being obstinate in a crowd of offended people isn't. After you pass a certain age, people tend to be less forgiving with ignorance so my advice is wise up.

It is illogical to expect that your words will in any way bring the human race to a more rational understanding of history. You should strive to be more intelligent, rational, and realistic.

I am a bit suprised by Hoppi's reaction to Youfreeme's post there. I thought she hit it right on the nail and couldn't be much clearer or honest at all. Yes, most people accept you did not post controversial stuff to be mean. Do you realize that?
I for one think you are annoying because you make statements and choose sides while you have not even looked good at the facts yourself. In other words: naive where it comes to touchy and serious subjects without trying to get into the regular source material first: no, you rather learn by reading other peoples controversial opinions on the internet. Well, you don't see how annoying this can be on a public forum.
Even IF you were up to date on the subject it remains touchy but you went right in at the deep end, while proclaiming "I love to get deeper into this stuff". Ok: you first go through the basics before you can 'go deeper'.

 

You'd think by now you'd realize you need a different approach to talking to hoppi. Logic would dictate that you speak to him on terms that he can understand.

 

I think we all just see things very differently.

I'm not going to change, because I don't think I am wrong.

I relax, and I learn, and I inquire, and it's served me well.

I was eager to type that post and I'm not typing in my first language. I hope I was clear enough, I tried to. If he don't understand he can ask and I will reword it. Sometimes Hoppi needs to conform to the messenger as well. I for one thinks he is perfectly able to.

So what? That shouldn't have to be a problem. As long as we are interested in how and why we see things differently we could discuss everything. A well founded opinion is needed for that with certain topics though. And a willingness to share it of course.

Aren't we? We are simply posting our views in your apology thread, not condemning you. I do not even think you needed to apologize, but now that you made this thread the least I want is you to understand why we all didn't like your holocaust thread.

 

Well I did type it in a haste. He should understand where we are coming from by now, after all.

 

To be honest I didn't start this thread solely about the Holocaust thread, I started a few threads recently that seemed to cause some unease.

And yeah, we deffo see it differently. I like to relax when researching a topic - any topic. I like to sit back and slowly learn from all the different viewpoints - not rush, not fight, not fret, just take time, and learn. Listen to everyone and take my time, and enjoy the learning experience as well.

That seems to work for about 98% of topics, maybe even 99%. But certain topics like the Holocaust are so sensitive, it just doesn't work. People want to handle them fundamentally differently it seems, and that catches me off-guard and confuses me. So I tend to just discuss it in smaller or more specific groups who approach it similarly to other topics.

Certain topics I truly am passionate about and care about, and that sometimes gets me into scrapes too. Usually I am just trying to defend freedom and peace though

 

It doesn't really come across like this when you post a thread about a topic with a video that you hadn't even finished watching yet.


And I hope you don't think we're all just ganging up on you, but you did start a thread about yourself so this is all a response to the topic.

 

Well, I do remember the Iran vs Israel thread as well. There you mentioned zionists and stuff and took a side (palestinian if I recall right) and also admitted you were not up to date AND you didn't even like to discuss politics. You can imagine how that comes across on other people that read that thread right?
Then shortly after that thread you go off making the holocaust thread and link one of the reasons that it's so controversial to the zionists again, of which you admitted in the other thread you did not really like to get into and aren't really up to date about. Then you read Pressed rat's post and proclaim how much you learn about the subject from your holocaust thread. So I hope you can picture how this comes across to other forummers who read such things and have a hard time taking any post from you about zionists, holocaust etc. seriously.

 

No. No. No. You claim that you like to read posts and learn, but you obviously haven't learned anything from our comments on this thread! As other people have mentioned, it has little to do with the topic, and a lot to do with how you handle the topic, Hoppi.

If you want to know how to handle topics that are controversial, read the posts on this discussion. Then, your posts won't annoy people any more. If you do this, even if they disagree with you and engage in a heated debate, people will respect you for having a sane, well thought out, and informed opinion.
