i just started growing for my first time. i started growing my herbs 1-1.5 weeks ago i soaked my seeds overnight and removed them and placed them into papertowels, after which i had little sprouts about 1-1.3 inches in height to this day and transplanted them into little mulch pods i had bought at a nurcery which have a tray to cetch excess water and i water them by pouring water into the try and the pods float above it being submerged a half inch being 3 inches tall and dribbling water onto them. I'm growing ten plants of mid grade for starters for 5 days now, right now i have a commercial grow light set but was wondering if a red heat lamp would be good or terrible because of the heat it gives off it i have it set above my herbs above 2 feet for fear of scorching my saplings. So my questions are did i plant correctly, is my lightbulb satisfactory, what shall i do once the plants are 1 foot in height, am i watering them to profusely or not? Helpful tips are greatly appritiated :)

I would use the lights you have. Once they get bigger you might want to use a heat lamp. If you put it too close they will scorch.

What Benifit does the heat lamp give? The plants need light, I would assume using a heat lamp only would kill them.

The best lights to use are metal halide for vegitation, and high pressure sodium for fruiting.

I think you are overwatering but I'm not sure. I've only grown with clones so I'm not familiar with what you're doing.

What wattage lights are you using?

You only want to use a heat light to keep the temperature up. In case your house/storage is cold or something.

Not sure on your watering too I`m a soil and pot guy me... plant sprouts/seeds water in and spray once a day to keep top level of soil moist/not sodden after a week to 10 days its proper wet/dry cycles water till it runs out the bottom then water again 4-5 days later once they get bigger it could be every 2/3 days depends on pot.

not sure on heat lamp to if you have a proper grow lamp like said use that but if you cant mantain temps of 75f use a heater instead.

as for size of plants really depend on your set up and light being used, believe it or not a poor light/not enough light will actually grow taller plants then a correct light but all you will end with is leggy tall plants with fewer bud sights. done correctly in veg grow for first 4-6weeks your plants will remain fairly small in size but will be growing loads of nodes/bud/branch sights after you set into bloom your plants can double and more in size by time you come to harvest.
the run of the mill grow that most grower do for a quick harvest is grow for 4 weeks repot and top plants and then grow on for another 2 weeks before blooming.

    hope helped good luck

When the temp is low, there may be a need for a heat lamp jut like in the case of winter and the biting cold weather penetrates the grow room. Sure ths should not happen but a heat lamp is one way to balance the temps.

If you're weed plants are doing okay then as you see it then no means to be troubled by your set-up. But the grow lights really differ during veg and flowering.
